    Balance shouldn't be needed after a Universal joint replacement. They are screwing you. Take somewhere else or do it yourself.

    Agreed, there shouldn't be a need to rebalance the driveshaft providing everything is clocked the same as it came apart when it is reassembled.
    Would it be a good idea to rebalance? Probably but I've done countless ujoints at the shop and never had an issue after.

    If youre in Michigan, Ill swap them for you! and your CVs look GOOD...no slung grease..I think they think you;ll fall for the ol this is bad and thats bad and its going to cost you one MILLION dollars....take it somewhere else. Ask to to have the U joints changed, and then if your squeak disappears, which by the sound of your video, changing pitch as you accelerate, Id bet my next paycheck or 3 its dry ass U joints squeaking....EDIT...just saying, Columbus is 6 hours from me, and the weathers beautiful in Northern Michigan right now....

    replace all 3 REAR U joints and carrier bearing ~ 120-150 in parts.


    That sound is 100% not the CV.

    99.9% its the U-Joints and/or Carrier carrier for sure. I just went through that. My first thought was carrier bearing but I figured a good time to do the U-Joints and def was needed. You don't need to rebalance the shaft if you mark exactly where it was bolted up. Before removing from the truck mark where it all lines up so you can put it in the same way. Each connection point on the drive shaft is as well.

    If you are getting CV issues that is another issue entirely. Fix u joints and/or carrier and then retest. If you have a lot of slop in the carrier (it shouldn't move all that much) replace but a good piece of mind if you need to U-Joints.

    Tech may have grabbed the drivers side CV and seen the sloop and that is normal due to needle bearing that side only (see ECGS bushing posts) but assumed it was junk.

    Definitely u joints, the hollow driveshaft magnifies / resonates the noise. If they are greaseable pump them full of grease and see if the noise goes away, either way you will have to replace them so it's easier to just replace them.

    It’s 100% u-joints, you can tell because the squeaking is faster than the wheels are turning. Get a laser thermometer and temp check both after a short drive and you’ll see which one (you should replace both while you’re at it). Although I guess it could also be your pinion bearing, you can check that with the laser too. Make sure your diff is full

    Has lockers, a skewp and a bit of droop.
    Not for nothing but I paid less for a new complete oem driveshaft.

    You only need to mark where the 2 axles go together at the carrier. Marking the trans or diff yoke makes no difference.

    Please tell me you didn’t let them do it.


    I had a similar experience with a Cayenne Turbo S I owned. The drive shaft was $3200 from the dealer plus another $2,000 to install. WTF?!?!

    Autozone had it for $600 bucks and done deal.


    Buy the parts, get a service manual and learn how to fix it. The dealerships are making CRAZY money on basic maintenance because we let them. Stop paying these outrageous prices, they do it because they can.


    If you lived close I would do it for you, and teach you how to do it for $400. Just buy the parts. Lol. It’s definitely worth a weekend
