What is this stuff on my new truck?

    Hey there TW fans

Can anyone tell me what this speckled film/residue is on my truck? 1st pic is the bottom of divers side headlight- no residue.
2nd pic (look close) is the top of the same headlight- there appears to be some speckled film/residue on it. Same with the pic of a wheel. The pics were taken with the truck clean so it isn’t dust or dirt. The stuff won’t come off either.
What is weird is that most of the body panels have it too although I can’t get it to show in pictures you can feel it if you rub your hand against it. Even more odd is that the top of the hood and some other body panels don’t have it- if you brush you hand along the top of the hood it feels like a normal body panel that is painted with clear coat- feels smooth. When I brush my hand against an affected area it feels rough, but is barely distinguishable from the rest of the body panel. But if I look close I can tell that the top of the hood was taped off before whatever this stuff is was applied.
My truck did come with the “Vehicle Protection Premium Package” so I’m wondering if they sprayed this stuff on and it got on other areas of the truck?
My concern is that this stuff won’t come off, and I can see it on the windshield, back windows, trim, and of course the headlights and wheels.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Wow, maybe it's that paint renewer treatment whatever the fuck that is. I would not be happy with this either and would take it back to the dealer for a proper delivery prep job.

I sent them pics but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Was hoping to go armed with information before dropping it off at the dealer and they keep it for god knows how long.
Bought the truck 2 months ago.

Oooff, I can see them claiming this was not their doing given it's been 2 months since delivery. I thought you just picked it up. Best of luck.

    Oh look, another mod....
Why did you take delivery of the vehicle before inspecting it? If you had inspected it, you would have caught this. The dealership is going to tell you to pound sand.

Yep, go pound sand elsewhere. 2 months later before you realized there's something there? Don't you use/look at it daily when it's new?

Did your dealer seriously charge you 80 bucks for a curt tow ball?

Clean it yourself if you want to ensure it is done to your standards and correctly. I’m not being a smart ass. This is how I approach a repair or a simple wash.

And rightfully so. If I sold someone a truck and they complained about something on the paint 2 months later I'd assume they were joking.

Yep looks like overspray from the "sealant" (likely some kind of wax). It should come off after several months if you leave it alone. On glass you can try dish soap or an aggressive wax remover, but don't use it on paint or plastic.

Try some mild cleaner polish on an area, I bet it removes it.

Does the leading edge of the hood have an actual plastic/poly/vinyl film on it similar to a clear bug shield?

If not they charged $599 for fuck all. Which might be slightly better than if they sprayed God knows what all over it.

That looks like typical overspray. Do you park outside? Any neighbors recently had their house painted?

I think you are correct about it being overspray. You think its ok if i leave it alone?
Goo-gone works! (Well i have "Krud Killer" which is basically the same thing.) Tried it on a wheel and it seems to take it off where soap and water wouldn't (phew!)

Did i look at the truck before i took delivery? Of course I did!! But i'm not rubbing my hands across all the body panels looking for paint texture inconsistencies. From 2 ft away truck looks clean and brand new, up close is only when you notice it (first world problems.) I honestly thought it was just a little dust and that it would be gone once i washed it.

Dealer ghosting me. At the very least i want my dealer to fix affected areas or my $599 back. Will keep you updated.

Yeah it has the clear vinyl film on certain areas like on the leading edge of the hood. Like most people who bought a new tacoma this year i couldn't say i don't want it. Had to come with that other crap including this paint sealant.
Plus i got a manual which are harder than hell to find(i searched state-wide for a month before i got one w/o markups.)
