Got rear-ended yesterday. The back of my frame was bent all the back until it reached my spar underneath the bed. Obviously, it needs to be replaced. Any advice on what to do with insurance? It has just under 70k miles on it. Should I replace the frame and push for diminished value or just push for it to be totaled. 20220929_182711.jpg 20220929_182435.jpg 20220929_182442.jpg

I don't think that choice is yours unless the insurance adjuster gives it to you. They decide repair or total. That said, I understand there is a very long wait time for frames, so they may lean more towards the total (assuming you have enough damage) rather than frame replacement simply due to the time frame (pardon the pun).

Toyota is pretty good a frame swaps, If you plan to keep the truck till it dies diminished value really doesn't matter. If you are planning to trade up at some point maybe push to total it.

Mine had the same happen last month.
Insurance finally totaled mine last week.

Getting a new one out of it though.

Was planning on keeping it til it dies, but getting a new frame makes me a little nervous about something coming up down the road. Getting diminished value will still have a payout even if you keep it though, right?

I don’t think you have a choice between whether they pay to total it or repair it. The insurance company will decide how much they are willing to pay you based on which is the cheaper option.

You do have a choice to take a check instead of a repair. If you intend on keeping the truck a long time and are ok keeping the damaged frame, then taking the check might do you well.

Toyota has done ALOT of frame swaps, the second gen frames had a recall and they did thousands of frame swaps. I wouldn't' expect them to mess it up.

Was there any other damage that caused them to total it or just the wait time? I'm just wondering if I should start planning on a replacement or if they'll want to repair it.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I don't know your region's dealers, but mine did an excellent job replacing the frame on my '06. Given Toyota's experience with replacing frames (especially the dealer you take it to) it should be fine.
