@malatx So did your truck have any mods that could have possibly made it more of a target? Was your truck stock? Still wanting to see some pics of your truck. I would of posted it on social media specifically Instagram where people can repost to see if anyone saw it in Texas.

 

I was hoping to not have to file a claim so my rates won't go up, but looks like that's not an option.

Yeah, just put on new wheels not too long ago.
I just realized there might have been a confusion, I'll edit the first post, I call both my Tacoma and 4Runner truck.
They were parked right next to each other, only the 4Runner was taken. Tacoma probably too distinctive they didn't want that kinda attention. But could have been Tacoma that drew the attention

It’s not speculative… when cars get stolen in modern day especially the way they’re doing it- they’re gone before you can even realize what happened. If he’s in Texas, the chances it was in Mexico in hours is great. Been around this stuff for many years.

 

Not to mention, at least in my experience, repair shops often “cover” the deductible by doing the work for about a deductible less than what the adjuster estimated. I don’t know about $2000 but definitely $500.

There’s a sweet spot based on probability and it’s not a deductible of $0.

I've found a happy middle ground between guns blazing and doing nothing. If i could see the truck from the road, I wouldn't go in after it I would shoot the shit out of it, making sure to poke lots of holes in the aluminum engine block and trans. Than take off, get the insurance payout and move on with my life.

Here's the thing though- even with that setup, people mistakenly end up coming down the driveway. In the 10 years I've lived at my current place, 100% of the people that have accidentally ended up at my house are lost and completely harmless. I've never felt the need to answer my door with a gun handy or yell at anyone who drove in. In fact, someone literally showed up yesterday. He felt embarrassed for getting the wrong address and we had a quick friendly chat anyway. If you find a nice quiet place to live you'll have to adjust your expectations and realize that most people don't have bad intentions.

 

Honestly, if someone is breaking into your house or if you're in a situation where you're going to kill someone, the first thing they should hear is "BOOM BOOM BOOM". All these people are like "I'll rack a shotgun and then they'll know i'm serious" are just being silly. You literally have a voice. You can say outloud "One more step motherfucker and you're dead" An unloaded gun that you load to make movie sounds is retard shit.
