We actually had a technician out yesterday. We are on satellite due to being in a little gulley. Our provider recently upgraded a nearby tower and thought we could get a line of sight to it to double our speed, half our cost and get us unlimited bandwidth. Sound too good to be true? You bet! Our roof is super steep and the tech said his feet were slipping too much and he was taking the asphalt off of the shingles. Looks like we are doomed to satellite for a while. :angrygirl: I may look into Star Link since I think it's latency is much less and it's unlimited bandwidth. It's hard to make the change when the improvement is pretty small. :ballchain:

It’s fun to see all these different network tests. I can remember 300 baud using an acoustic coupler .

    839CE432-5222-4E4F-A773-D50E8E21B86F.jpg

I remember doing “shotgun” - dual 33.6K modems on two phone lines. ISDN, ADSL 1.5M/256K, SDSL, Fractional T1, T1, T3,10M, 20M, 50M, 1G, 10G. Personally, I have FTTH (Fiber To The Home) :anonymous: min 1G/1G with experimental 5G/5G (personally haven’t seen NIC cards for this in person or in PCs).

Curious about @Rezkid ‘s connection/connections - it looks like parallel circuits/connections, since the vendor NIDs/connectors go 1G/10G. I do redundant parallels regularly, so I get 1G+1Gs. But I love hearing about other technologies and solutions. Yes, I’m a nerd too…

$4.69 for regular at my local Costco, which is usually the cheapest. Everywhere else is around $5.10 for regular. Still cheaper than CA, but I recall it being $2.xx only a few years ago. :bikewheelie::burnrubber:

I'm on fiber/wifi, but my ISP is always slower than advertised. I should be closer to 1 gig upload/download. :smash:

Oh, and an addendum for my sleuths…. What the hell is this and what is its purpose?

    23BB243A-783A-4482-AD82-F80DE7E88BFF.jpg

It appears only on the driver side and not on the passenger (no holes indicating it was ever installed and just missing).

I did my best to edit the photo to give a better view (sorry, shade side). It’s chrome with red plastic or glass. It appeared to be similar from both front and rear view, with more of a downward design when I observed it.

Little bit of this and that
@NoOne I'll check on Monday what we have at the office but there are 2 fiber lines incoming. It's plenty fast for what we do and only have 4-5 guys in the office at any given point in the day.

Good morning friends! Hope everyone has a blessed day :hattip:

We made it through the storm with no problems, just a bunch of limbs in the yard to clean up.

Yeah, we don't have any trees down , but leaves are everywhere. Lost power for about 30 seconds . Guess we got lucky.

Cole and I moved some free lumber in the shop earlier in the week and started making a free deer blind yesterday. Did I mention how free it is? :bananadance:

    8825723C-CFE6-4C1A-8A3D-4528BA3045AD.jpg

We added some treated pads for it to sit on and so I can get my forks under it to move it with the loader.

I don’t know if ours ever went out, thank God it stayed on. My aunt lives at North Myrtle beach and they got hammered. As far as I know her power is still out.

I ask Cole to put a couple screws in for me and he squeezed the trigger and it hammered a couple times and he said it broke. So much for a free deer blind :annoyed:

That deer Sadie shot last Saturday is fine. Minus part of his rack.
