I've been trying to say there are consumer level coatings that do last!

Can the average guy apply them correctly? They don't seem to last more than several months here in the new england climate where we get hit with everything on our roads, and weather. I've spoken to a buddy thats had a detail shop for years, and he knows of none. Even the toyota dealer that recommended the profesional ceramic coating i had done says they'd had used others in the past with mixed results.

Yes, the average guy can. If you can do the prep work, the coatings are easy. I said this before, wipe on, wipe off.

This is not a spray coating, this is a hard, long lasting coat.

Another tried and true solid coating:

I applied this kit on my dads Subaru 4 years ago and its still solid as a rock.

I've used all 3 and the easiest to use is the Gyeon. It's on my truck now and we shall see how long it lasts. It's going on 7 months and it still looks almost perfect.

Hilarious, your expert detail guy isn’t going help you sidestep a service he provides. Shit I’d be telling you it requires an engineer to install as well but in reality if you don’t have a buffer and know how to do paint correction it is best to stay on the porch with the small dogs. This thread is just like a ridiculous best oil to use thing now. Quit looking at YouTube sales videos get out into the shops see what they use. SEMA is by invitation only but try to find someone that’s goes every year. Stay up to the minute on this technology it changes fast.

At the end of the day, whether you use a wax, a sealant, a ceramic wax, or a ceramic coating...it's better to have one of them on your truck instead of nothing. They each have their pros and cons, but none of them are "maintenance free" solutions. I think that's important to understand...especially if you're going to shell out the money to have a ceramic coating professionally applied.

In my experience, waxes and sealants are pretty similar, they'll last 3-4 months (6 if you're really lucky) with regular washes. Both are pretty time and labor intensive to apply, especially if you're talking multi-stage waxes/sealants. Wax on, wax off...repeat as necessary. I used a few multi-stage waxes and polishes for years. They produced great results, but took me 8+ hours to apply properly. In my 20s it was fine, but by the time I hit 40, I hated myself when I finished...every joint from my back to my shoulder to my fingers ached for a few days. The results were great, but doing that 2x a year per vehicle made me dread every spring and fall.

IMO ceramic waxes are the next step up. Cost wise, they're on par or a bit more expensive than waxes/sealants, but they can last 6-12 months...again, with regular maintenance washes. Mileage and climate may vary, but as I mentioned previously, I moved to Griot's 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax...after 3-months, it's holding up better than any wax/sealant I've ever used. I'll reserve full judgement until after the first Chicago winter. I typically wash my truck 2x a month though, so it's not like I'm going crazy washing it every weekend. Time wise, applying this product took me less than 2 hours...then another hour or so 24-hours later to apply a second coat. Even if it only lasted 6 months, from an ease of application and time-saving perspective, it would be worth it.

Ceramic coatings are all the rage now. A "professional" ceramic coating should last several years...again, with proper maintenance. You're also going to pay more though...ceramic coating products seem to be in $150-$500 range, and at least $1500 if you pay to have it professionally applied (though that price can go up dramatically if you want to do paint correction before the ceramic coating).

Then there's people who apply nothing, rarely wash their vehicles (or get nature's "car wash" when it rains), and seem to ignore maintenance...yet somehow their vehicles are still running, and their paint lasts longer than all of ours. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gyeon Pure Evo going on 8 months. At this rate it'll make the year easy (disputing those that say no coating can last more than 12 months) and most likely much longer.

I use Double Black Bead Maker. I used it on my 2018 with good success. Now I'm using it on my 2022. It is easy and quick to use and even with a car wash membership it seems to last a long time. Side note: I think the truck looks a lot better with the B-pillar black stickers removed.

Beadmaker is great!! Please say it’s not a drive thru wash membership that uses brushes.

I’ve been trying out Adams products and they’re pretty good. I applied their Ceramic Graphene coating and I’m impressed, bird shit and that yellow bug shit barely sticks to it

Ive been using the turtle ceramic shit since last August. Ive found it to extremely easy to use. I give the truck a good wash , blow it dry with backpack blower, and hit it with the turtle. I do 2 , even 3 wipe downs. It literally takes no time. For me its proven to be super user friendly and its my go to shine me up shit.
Give it a try , what can you loose ? 6 bucks?
