Hey what's up guys? I know there's a lot of threads regarding misfires for the 2.4 L engine but I think I have a unique situation. I have replaced spark plugs wires distributor cap rotor coil air filter oil oil filter have tested compression (165-175 psi for all 4) and I'm still getting a misfire on cylinder number 2 occasionally and it runs rough. Listened to all 4 injectors with stethoscope, they all sound the same. New optima battery. I removed and cleaned the throttle body, it was frigging caked with crud, but the plug on cylinder 2 doesn't look fouled. None of the other plug wires are will reach, so haven't checked that via swapping, but they are brand new. What's left to check?

If the wire (and more importantly the connections to and from it) going to the #2 injector is flaky it will cause a random misfire.

Mmm they are brand new plug wires. I know they can be bad out of the box, maybe I should try and score another #2 plug wire just to be sure. If connection was janky further back than the plug wire... it'd be at the distributor and (correct me if I'm wrong) it wouldn't be just the single cylinder. When I cleaned the throttle body I didn't continue on into the intake manifold... and it was still quite filthy with crud. Maybe i should get back in there and scrape it clean. Also considering modifying a cold air intake for 3vze for use on this 2rzfe.

I was referring to the wire that feeds the injector, not the spark plug. It could also be an intermittent injector.

Ah, yes, I see now. I have eyeballed the wires going to the injector, and they don't look damaged, but I will certainly look further back. I scoured pick n pull lor an injector but came up short. It's only thrown the code twice, and not in several weeks now, but it definitely still happens, I get a slight loss of power followed by a surge usually in its first freeway trip of the day, feels kinda sluggish up to about 40 mph (sorry no tach... yet) then hauls ass up to freeway speeds. Would the best way to diagnose an intermittent injector be to dash to the engine compartment with the stethoscope next time it happens? I get good prices on auto parts, but those injectors are still 95 bucks each, since I'm not willing to use anything but oem.
