Since 1978, I bought and owned Toyota 2WD mini trucks (1978, 1988, 1999). In 2005, Tacoma eliminated the mini truck with the 2nd Generation bigger box trucks that got uglier and bigger in 3rd Generation.
I recently lost my 1999 1st Generation and would now like to buy a 2003/2004 2WD manual transmission (with less than 120K miles) but not many available on the East Coast. Can anyone recommend a good website that sales these gems?

You will have to get a Ford Maverick.

That's about as mini of a mini truck you can get. Maverick is more of a CUV than a truck. 4door, IRS, FWD or AWD.

    I wouldn't even consider a 1st Gen a "mini truck"

Yes they are very compact, but feel like the older Datsuns, Mitsubishi (Mighty Max), Toyota Pick up (pre-Tacoma), Nissan Hardbody, and the sort to be the real mini trucks from back in the day.

As far as a search, it really comes down to budget.

I'm shocked to hear that you can't find any out there. There are many 1st Gens for sale still available with low mileage, but your best bet is looking for private sellers IE facebook, craigslist, this forum (we have a marketplace too as well as regional section), ksl, local autoshopper and more.

There are many people that have found their truck in another state even and simply drove it back home. This is especially true for the east coast as many of you have to deal with rust. Those buyers find a vehicle from the west coast, fly over, and drive it back.

They're out there, you're just not really looking.

FB marketplace is where I found mine. Shortage on the east coast is probably bc they're rusting out. If it ain't rusted, they ain't selling it.

The 1st gen Tacoma is the last of the breed. Nice ones pop up on ebay fairly often... like others said you have to be willing to travel for the right truck.

Ridiculous for sure... if it's clean with low miles it won't be cheap. I could probably sell mine for the same or more than I paid for it over a decade ago.

OP is looking for 2WD though, so that shouldn't hurt the wallet quite as much
