The OTT Tune 8.0 I have has "Gear Lock".

That along with ECT and S-Drive is worthy of a test.

It will be some time before I get a Sleeper/Camper Trailer to test this out...but I'm optimistic. :)

You mean it lets you manual select it? From my understanding the default behavior is that higher gears lock at a certain rpm. Definitely need more info on this

I don't see why you'd need s drive unless you're engine braking. I don't no of any modern transmissions that recommend staying out of overdrive for towing.

The problem I had before the regear is that the gears were so tall that my rpm was all over the place. The computer wants a bit more rpm but the downshift makes the engine yell (sometimes scream)

    I have a Gashole
I came from a similar background. Had an F350 dually and large horse trailers though I was pulling goosenecks which made a world of difference.
At least with the TT I don't have horses shifting around at 65-70 mph.
Living in AZ I have had to deal with significant elevation changes going in and out of Phoenix heading north. I purchased a NoBo 19.6 with a dry weight of approx. 4300#. I tried to go as ultra light as I could with all the things I added with a minimalistic attitude. I weighed everything as I added it to the trailer with the exception of the food and clothing that we bring with us. My tongue weight, using a scale that I purchased on eBay, was around 550#. Based on my guestimated weight for the trip I did this for, my loaded weight was probably around 5-5100#. This put me at about 75% of my 6800# tow capacity.
Towing was not unpleasant especially on flat ground. Doing steep grades was more frustrating than anything since I was using an ultragauge to monitor tranny temps. Did not like seeing the temp get up over 240 at the torque converter when it was unlocked. However it didn't stay there long. If you let the engine do its thing at higher RPMs it is certainly capable.
My only concern is the long term effect on the transmission. My plan....
auxiliary cooler to go along with the stock one and changing the fluid every 30K instead of 60k.
Many have said a re-gear helps too.
The write up for my experience with the Nobo 19.6 can be found in the towing forum here.

    @Taco X

Gear Lock for automatic transmissions does just that...Activate by pressing the ECT button and S-mode. Gears will be held in place and shift only if manually selected.

    I repeated myself...lol

Don’t fill up on water until the last possible moment before your destination, or at all if your destination is a campground. Hauling water is hundreds of pounds of added and usually unnecessary wait for most of the trip.

    Good call.

That weight factor is key when determining weights of the trailer and the truck.

One caveat is that depending on where your water tank is located it can be used to help distribute trailer weight, especially tongue weight, if the tank is behind the axles. In my case it’s no help since my tank is in front of the axles and adds another 650lbs to the trailer when full.

Spend some time in the Towing sub, there is a ton of great info from all of us who tow trailers.

I'm talking about the fluid coupling causing heat build up. Supposedly modern transmission will lock like a manual. Here's a quick search on here:

I think you have exposed a widely held myth that we must tow our trailers in S5 or be dammed.
