I actually like it opening like it dose, it creates a privacy barrier when I'm accessing my tools, sporting goods or anything else that I don't want my neighbors or the public putting their noses in. Along with the drivers door opened, it is a space where many times I have changed into/out of a wetsuit, out of wet foul weather gear and anything else where you need a little privacy.

^The 180-deg opening doors typically have a detent that can hold the door at ~90 deg, so there's no loss of function.

Tri-fold Tonneau cover and a Bed extender left folded inward, excellent for securing groceries, hardware and other store items etc. Easy quick access from rear.

You guessed right. Unbolting the OEM catch will only buy maybe ten or twenty more degrees of opening before the door hits the body or bed in several places.

I've considered grafting that GM style hinge into the body and door. There is probably room behind the sheet metal of the body and door to fit it in, but that would require some major league sheet metal cutting and welding.

Mmmm, never gave it a thought. Thanks, it will probably bug me now for the rest of my ownership and I'm going to be buried in this truck.

My son says the same thing about his 05 Access Cab. He has commented that if his truck had them, he would probably never close them during the spring to fall months unless it was going to be parked in a down-pour. He has the rear slider and he can reach it from the driver's seat, but he's on Vermont dirt roads often and this year they were bone-dry and big time dusty all summer: rarely can he drive with it open. Rear doors with pop-out windows on an Access Cab should be standard and would make the AC even more perfect than it already is: especially with the rear slider. Footnote: He has a/c in his truck and it still works fine, but he never turns it on. (He takes after his 90+ y/o Grandfather) ;)

06 Tundra access cab with the Bermuda triangle doors. Grocery loading was a nightmare depending on parking space.
Installed a pop up camper in the bed and now all groceries go right in the back of the camper.
They stay cool, and it backs right up to the garage door.
    Best mod ever.

This is why my wife does the grocery shopping in her Highlander. The most groceries I ever shop for is beer. And I don't need to open the rear doors or if I get a keg I throw it in the back. :D

The same shit everyone else has.
Take the catch off and slam the door open as hard as you can, I bet it opens further.

I'll agree the rear suicide doors are useless in tight parking spots. For groceries or small bags of stuff, I just pile em in the passenger floorboards or the bed. Stuff like long guns have to go in the back of the cab which can REALLY be a PITA in a tight parking situation. Time for a locking tonneau or a good secure cap.

My '07 Tundra double cab had doors not much bigger than the '15 Taco Access cab doors and those were hinged from the front.
