Several threads about these different devices to alter pedal response. Recently saw one with one that was like $50 and thought it might be worth trying. Appeared to have a mini usb or similar cable connection to it that got me to wondering what happens if it comes unplugged. Dead in the water ? Rear end the family in front of you ? Anyone experienced any failures with these devices or have any safety concerns ? I figure I could manage it but if and when it failed, would almost certainly be with the wife out somewhere in it . Decided I’d pass for now and just press the pedal harder when I need to

Just get a proper tune. They can modify throttle input mapping and much, much more.

The Banks Pedal Monster plugs into the OBDII port for power and bypasses the module if it fails so the pedal will return to default for instance it if gets disconnected at the port instead of relying on the power from the pedal connector.
I have 33s and use it in sport mode with the throttled trimmed down below 10mph and during reverse and my truck is way more drivable on the streets and mountain highways. If I use ECT with it it gets pretty ridiculous. I got it because I'm not messing with a tune and I'm waiting to get gears and 34s.

There are two sensors in the gas pedal assy running on different voltage curves. The ECM expects the two voltages to add up to a constant value or match some table in the ECM software. A failure in the pedal controller would throw the voltages out of range and cause the ECM to drop to idle. There could also be "soft" malfunctions that cause the pedal controller to change to a different setting uncommanded. Yes, a pedal controller would be a critical component in your vehicle, so stick with the better-known brands (Sprint Booster, Pedal Commander, Ultimate9, etc.) with a North American presence, not a cheapo $50 eBay or AliExpress unit.

I personally run the EVC Ultimate9. In any of the "U" settings U1 thru U9, it removes the initial deadband in the pedal. It's very noticeable when compared back-to-back against the "- -" pass-through setting. I now have a KDMax tune that does this, so I leave the controller in "- -" in daily driving. When doing technical trails in 4Lo, I sometimes set the controller to one of the eco modes to make the throttle less sensitive than stock.
