2009 Tacoma, 4.0 V6, auto with 284k miles on it. I am randomly losing power when driving down the road. It does it when I hit a bump more than it does when I don't. It doesn't shut off just loses power. If I hold the gas pedal down it won't accelerate but when I let off for a couple seconds and press it again it will act as if nothing has happened. I have not messed with anything electrical on my truck and it has not been through mud/water in months. When it first did it I got a P0022 code for the Camshaft Position sensor. I changed the oil and cleared the code but the code has not came back but I'm still losing power. Other than this the truck runs great. No ticks, knocks or rough idle (plugs replaced around 7000 miles ago). Obviously I'd say I need to replace that sensor but does anyone know if there could be another issue going on?

Loose connection somewhere. Start with the camshaft sensor

As soon as this hurricane rain moves on I'll check connections. Hopefully it's nothing terrible that will last past next weekend so I can make it to Expo East. It's just odd that it started doing g it when I haven't messed with anything

I'm not 100% about that. Yes it does lose power as though it could be the TPS but it accelerates just fine. Not saying you're wrong because I haven't had the chance to properly check connections or test anything

    Check your brake light switch.

If the PCM sees a brake switch input then it will go into brake override mode which will drastically cut power so I agree it is something to check.

To combat unintended acceleration if you press the brake while pressing the gas your throttle will be disabled.

Sounds like a loose connection or ground issue. I would follow the DTCs for a solution. Check cam position sensor wiring. Also check often for pending codes that might offer a clue.

I recall testing a brake light switch where pedal up had very high resistance, +400 ohms, pedal down had resistance fluctuating somewhere around 1.1 to 40 ohms.

So could it possibly be the throttle controller I installed about 3 months ago?

It's possible, you can always unplug it and see if the problem goes away.

Did you check the brake switch as suggested above. That is more apt to fail than any of the other suggestions.

Start at the easy cheap fixes first.

I've been waiting for the rain to move out before I check that. I'll be back with an update tomorrow or Tuesday

**UPDATE** I lowered the setting on my throttle controller and have had no issues since. I will say that if it does it again I will just unplug the controller all together. I guess the setting I had it on was too high.

You say in the first post you haven't been through any mud or water in months, but in the rest of the thread you say you're waiting for rain to stop. Sounds like a possible loose connection somewhere that is intermittently getting wet.

I was waiting for the rain to stop so I could go out in my driveway and work on it. Prior to the rain (Hurricane Ian remnants) it was still doing it no matter the weather
