What would you be cutting the 3/16s with? If it's anything other than a plasma or oxy-fuel torch I'd go TG. If you do have a plasma or torch, I'd DIY that for sure.

I hope that @TMFF has his boxing plates still and they would work for your Xtracab frame… otherwise, I’ll dig up the links I saved before I sold my 1st gen.

I'd have to go to my buddys place down in NM to utilize a plasma cutter.

    Word. Thanks man!

Oh here we go... I felt like digging into my notes.

The Front Range Off-Road reinforcement plates (not box kit) have the most coverage that you can (could) buy (at the time of research in 2019). And they are relatively local to you. I remember when researching the bend in the frame was the part that continued to flex when people used other reinforcement plates that only covered the straight section...

    https://frontrangeoffroadfab.com/tacoma-frame-plates/
@mechanicjon is one of the few that have used them that I know of and he posted some good photos somewhere in his thread.

For boxing in, I was going to just follow what @jubei did, DIY in a driveway :D

I would say that adding a plate will get you most of the way there. If you aren't going to put a camper or heavy RTT and gear in the rear, it should be enough.

Bonus is that you don't have to deal with relocating and/or saving all of the wiring and brake line mounts if you box. Ask @jubei about the annoyance of that.

Thanks boys. I've been wheeling round with about 400lbs topper/tent/ camping gear/ recovery gear/ dogs. on/in the bed of the truck for the last 5 years... I'm glad I've not run into any issues yet. But I'm not looking to run into issues. I've ordered those plates. I'll probably have to head south to my buddys place and DIY the box at a later date.

Scary to think I've made it this far unscathed :D. I need to see @jubei 's Driveway escapade.

    edit:
Come to think of it. That Frame may have been replaced during a recall? (prior to my ownership) because it was pretty freakin' clean to begin with.

Feels like a pizza night. There should be some joy in my life before i watch the Broncos.
Might get crazy and cook up some sausage and crumble that along with the pepperoni.

I'm thinking I can double up on the dough, olive oil the pan and maybe achieve that.
