Nice. Good for you. I should have done that and called them.

I’m having a similar problem with my ‘22 Sport. In the last couple weeks I started noticing the same ticking noise at around 16,000Km. I’ll try and share my own videos of what it sounds like in the engine bay and from the cab with the hood up and giving it a little gas.

Think this could be a similar issue? I’m curious because my truck had alignment issues upon delivery because the factory didn’t install the control arms correctly; so it spent many days in the dealership having alignment and steering components played around with.

Hi, it’s hard to tell from the videos. I didn’t hear anything unusual.

If you look above in one of my posts you’ll see that I stuck a towel around the black plastic housing around the steering assembly on the inside of the cab going into the firewall.

if you try that and the noise is lessened then there probably is a problem at the pass-through of the firewall.

I apologize for my lack of correct terms for all these parts.

Brought the truck into the dealership yesterday. Turns out it was a faulty vacuum pump.

They’ve ordered the part and say that it should hopefully fix the issue. They disconnected it during diagnosis and said when the pump was disconnected the noise went away, hence the pump was faulty.

Update to original post. Toyota dealer finally got the part that has been on order. Fixed my truck no charge and everything is good again.

Here’s a pic of what broke. I believe it’s called steering sub- assembly. It mounts on the firewall I believe on the outside in the engine bay.

Rubber piece broke completely off leaving a circular gap around the steering column to the outside/inside causing the cab to be noisy.

Was the steering bushing the cause of the noise in the engine bay too?
or that was just letting the “normal” engine ticking noise into the cabin?

That’s a good question that I don’t have an answer. The mechanic called the rubber thing that broke free a bushing cap/cover.
