Remanufactured 4Cyl Engines?

Fate recently caught up with my 2000 Prerunner and I blew a cylinder on the inline 4. Id love to replace the engine altogether with a quality rebuilt or remanufactured one but im having trouble finding one from anyone that isn't extremely shady. Any recommendations??

 

Do you know what failed? If it's only a head/valves or headgasket failure it will likely be cheaper to rebuild yours. I just did one at work and it came out great. The head was actually cracked so the machine shop ordered a new oem head and they adjusted the valves. Had the head off by lunch time. Once head came back had the head installed and truck running in less than a day.

 

Lots of choices for the 4 bangers......unfortunately its big business.....

I went with reman block and new heads.....about $1700....

Didnt want to go half way and then regret.....

Oem heads are not holding well for some people......maybe its just them....bad luck....
definition of insanity.....second one wouldnt dare crack.....and then for sure the third....

oem is probably not oem anymore.....how long do you expect them to keep making in house.....or same contractor.....not profitable past certain point.....like the engine plant they had to shutter in kentucky....quality was so bad......2az engines....

Start looking at origin country on your oem parts packages.......they're from all over the planet now......

You'd need 4 port.....but the 8 port pics looked better.......but same ready to install....

 

Of course you're also gonna need an additional $1000 in stuff.....and thats if you go low....
studs, flexplate, motor mounts,time chain, guides, oil pump, all front seals, water pump,ECT sensor, injector cups, gaskets....list goes on and on....dont want to go back...do you...

Not gonna reuse old hoses and crap are u......

Took me a couple months to gather all that.....lots of back ordering.....

Even the breakin oil, took half a week from Dallas......at $11 /qt there must be gold dust in there.....

New radiator from champion, so no more leaking head gasket blues.....forever.....
No more crimped plastic for me.......

Like I said.....lots of things to consider.....everybodies situation is different.....
......To Oem......or Not Oem.........the road to tacoma bliss..........


Really interesting thing is......if you have 5Vz...you can pretty much double these prices...........
