I have an 18 Sport. I chose the Sport because I liked the color matched bumpers and fender flares. I like the look of the scoop but I do not like the obstructed view. Nice to have 4x4 but I personally have used it for a total of maybe 10 minutes in 4 yrs. Joe Homeowner truck so again, no need for rear locker and crawl control. I don't like the ride, too stiff and you feel every imperfection in the road. I actually just picked up an OR take off suspension for $100. Hoping for an improved ride. Anyway...my 2cents

Just be aware you cannot “order” a Tacoma from a dealer , as Toyota does not do factory orders. Toyota uses an allocation system to award their high volume dealers first. They build what they build and the dealer gets what they get. You can customize accessories but nothing else.

Its best to at least visit a few dealers , they may have different pricing/packages to offer. Not all dealers are the same . If you are lucky one may have a future build or inbound allocation available for you to put a deposit on. If not, you are just leaving money to be put on a random waitlist…

Hopefully they have at least one Tacoma for you to test drive. But odds are they won’t have several at the same dealership so it may be hard to compare the ride of an Off Road vs a Sport at the same dealer. Maybe you will luck out. When I was buying mine this year , Tacoma demos were sparse.

Put a deposit on a 2023 Black Sport today. Supposed to be delivered sometime between the end of October and mid November. Built and awaiting, or being shipped.

Oh the scoop.... ya cool looking I guess, but adds a huge bulge in the hood and is only for looks after all. One thing I really did like about the OR in the looks dept is the black flares and front bumper valance, wheel and tire package, over the Sport. Ya, I wanted the locker, but really don't think I would use it much.... maybe if I got my jeep stuck...lol. The MT does not have all the crawl setting I am pretty sure, so thats a wash. Otherwise, I drove a OR and Sport many months apart, too long to really compare ride. My dealer got me a Sport in my second color choice and all the options (Army Green with Premium) and a 6 MT. It is my daily, and I see in town and busy highway on my commute, the Sport functions well for the mixed driving. No complaints on the ride at all here, its solid, not washy.

I think most would be happy with either in the end, especially with the wait that some (like myself) had to get the truck they wanted when Toyota decided to build one..

From what it seems in a few months dealers may have the opposite problem - stock they can't move. Supply chain issues are starting to ease, inventory is slowly increasing, while at the same time interest rates are going up and consumer confidence is falling because of recession fears. What goes around comes around, Toyota dealers :)
