What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I picked up the part yesterday; how long does it take? I’ve read the instructions but just not yet sure how to get the door sill trim off.

 

I put in a phone charger big whoop lol

 

Washed it, and then blacked out the chrome badges.

A bit inspired by the Blackened whiskey l sampled last night.

 

Door sill trim pops off. Has clips that hold it on. This video is a good step by step.

Easy enough but if you have the outside LED "courtesy lights" under the body then a bit more involved. If so I can advise on what I did. If not, it's mount, plug and play.

 

Plug and play, at least for my 2017

 

Not long, door sill pops off, couple clips. Just use a trim tool or gently pull up starting at one end working towards the other.

What do you want to know? Those upper control arms are a bitch to remove

 

Not the OP. 1 suggestion I would make is don't wait till it gets too cold to remove interior panels. They will distort and possibly crack.

 

Installed hood struts today on the Tacoma. Also washed and waxed the wife's Avalon.

Removed the ridiculous cooler and toolbox out of the back of my Trail. BFG KO2's came in and replaced the Duratracs that were on it when I bought it. Road noise cut in 1/2 and smoothed out the truck on the road.

 

Today I installed "

The Weather Station" in the bed we use as a sleeping platform. Just a digital fish tank thermometer with the sensor routed down to the frame





I also installed my 50W solar panel that I had on my last Tacoma.



This uses a low profile panel that is on a 1/8" aluminum sheet



I use self adhesive magnetic tape on the back.




So it is very easy to add/remove when needed.

On my last Tacoma, I mounted the charge controller on top of the OEM fuse box lid.



This time I mounted in on top of the battery. I also added a sheet of ABS plastic over the aluminum plate that holds down the battery. That aluminum plate made the positive battery terminal dangerous to work on.


I think this is a nice improvement over my last Taco

You'll also need the ground cable and compression lug. That's another $35-$40. I haven't seen any other terminals as nice as those ones though.

 

I've had mine installed since I bought the truck new in December 2016. No issues. The brand is PcProfessional from Amazon. I don't think there's much difference between different ones on amazon.
