Looking for a good everyday vehicle with ability to take it to the cabin, fishing, and backpacking. Logging roads and mountain roads are the extreme. Daily driving is necessary.
My buddy has been telling me to upgrade the stock tires and rims.
    BFG 285 70 17 vs stock 265 70 16

    Any thoughts?

    Welcome to TW.

Give it a solid try in stock configuration first. No need for your buddy or this website to be spending money for you.

I personally enjoy the 265-70-17s but that's me, and I'm not you. :cookiemonster:

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I'll take 16's all day long. For 4WD, I want tire between my wheel and the road or trail. Even more so if I'm airing down.

If I was after the sporting feel, I'd be looking towards 17's or even 18's to reduce that profile but in my personal opinion, that's just dumb on a truck, especially a 4x4 rig. I've heard it said that there's better choices for tires in the 17" mode but I'd argue that deciding between higher quality manufacturers and designs, I've not had any issue getting exactly what works for me. YMMV.

I just took delivery of my SECOND set of wheels for my year old '21. I'll be selling my '20 Forerunner TRD Pro style wheels and putting on these new KMC "Canyon" model hoops. Can't wait to make it happen this week!

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
265/75R16 all day long. If you’re buying wheels make sure they provide a benefit(beadlock/Beadgrip) aside from looks. Cheers!

Run what's on it for now. A stock tacoma tire on a 16 or 17 is gonna make precisely zero difference in the grand scheme of things. If you're wrapping 35" x 12.5 tires around a 15" rim aired down to 12psi, then you might start to get some cushion in the sidewall itself. It's just a non-issue with an OEM sized tire on an OEM wheel
