    Good morning - Happy Sunday.
I am a "not even a newbie" Tacoma guy in MD but seeking to become a newbie immediately with a purchase. I know forums are a great resource from my experience on a bimmer forum for the last 12 years.
Currently seeking a TRD Off Road or PRO, given the scarcity I am open to anything 2019 thru brand new. I'm sure the PRO is overkill for someone who hasn't done any off-roading but I am open to it. Started my search 2-3 weeks ago. Glad to be on the forum, I welcome any resources, recommendations on finding a truck or even newbie advice on deciding on trim and options. Thanks!

Since many people scrap the suspension and other bolt on parts, i would suggest looking for a base model. You can install a better stereo, speakers, lift, etc with better parts than what comes on a pro and at a better price than the overpriced stuff that makes the pro more expensive than a base.

Pro is a fluff package. The driveline on all the models is the same, so the capability is all the same. There are different shocks across models, but those are easy to change.

Buy the least expensive model you can find that's been well cared for, then change things if you find you'd like something a bit different.

hey Fish...so base model Off-road? There are 1-2 off road base models available in a few weeks time. I assume you are meaning I can save $$ by doing some of the suspension/mechanical bolt on as needed. Thanks

Driveline is same got it, good to know. I did read the Sport does not have the mechcanical lockable differential. Can someone comment on whether it's important to start with having this on my base model? Meaning, start with the Off-road. Thanks!

You are correct, I forget there are some rear end differences. Ziggy says 97.4% of the folks who leave paved surfaces don't need this. :D

Plenty of OffRoad's and a few pros available in NY and southern VT. It is the trucks with 6ft beds that are hard to get.

Finally purchased my TRD PRO. They are detailing it, picking it up today! My first truck and first new car since 2005! Someone traded it in with 5K miles, they installed a roll bar and a type of tonneau cover that rolls itself up. Didn't get to check it out much but it looks pretty sweet though not sure how functional. Set out to get a light color Tacoma because how those colors tend to hide imperfections but not many TRD PROs around and this truck just looked badass.

    Congratulations!

I was going to say you can usually find an OR or Pro for sale somewhere in MD, I see allocations adverstised for Solar Ocatane manuals.

I think Toyota will be selling the 3rd gen through 2024, and right now I don't see that changing for 2025.

I don't think vehicle sales are going to be that great for any manufacturer in 2023.

Thanks batacoma. A bunch of dealers still trying to go about 10k over msrp. Not just 1 dealer in MD but I would say 50% of them. Some will say 5K over MSRP but when they send me the out the door cost they've also added $900 in processing fees. I noticed PA dealers were a bit cheaper, but yesterday someone called me from PA dealer and they had a 2023 inbound sched for Mid Nov arrival. He then said it would be 10K over msrp without even getting into a conversation. I just hung up. I still maybe did not get the best deal at 54.5K but the truck essentially is new. The inservice date was April 22, so it has 6 months of use and 5.5K miles. I didn't want to wait any longer not really knowing how long it will take for market to correct.
