I did not realize my SR was made without one.

I don’t need any of the wiring adapters because I’ll just be using it for a bike carrier (Kuat or 1Up).

Is Toyota the way to go, or are there other better choices?

Try UHaul surprisingly enough. They have an excellent warranty

You can get a variety of quality after-market bolt on receiver hitches at etrailer.com. Punch in your make/model/year and it'll show quite a few options. I got a Draw Tite class III 2" receiver from them for my other Tacoma -- an old 1999 2WD 2.4L beater -- and it has worked great for years.

Etrailer has good customer service, clear installation instructions & videos, etc. (I don't work for them or own any shares in the company, I just think they're a good business.)

Here's the beefiest bolt-on receiver hitch they sell for 2022 Tacos. Good brand, good specs, bolt on, no drilling, done: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Toyota/Tacoma/2022/75238.html I assume it fits any & all trim levels. Call, email, or chat with etrailer first to get a final fitment confirmation.

I think trucks without the hitch are missing some angle brackets on the bottom of the frame.

That aside, I tried to give my hitch away and finally tossed it in a dumpster. I'm sure someone out there has one for you, but you should post an ISO in the BST.

I also purchased my trailer hitch from etrailer. It fit and no additional brackets were needed. There was a tricky way to insert a couple hidden bolts though that I completed after a little delay. Good luck

I've bought several things from etrailer, including a hitch receiver, wiring harness, and assorted things. You can't go wrong with them.

Once you determine the model number of a Curt hitch to fit your truck, do a full sweep shopping expedition. Amazon, eBay, etc.

Scored my hitch from Amazon for the best price with free Prime shipping.

Curt hitch is the best aftermarket choice also its also a good idea to wire up a trailer connector, you say you will not tow but you never know

Etrailer also has some decent clip on mirrors for tacomas to.

Wish you were local. I ordered one for my sons 2001 Tacoma and was sent one for the newer model. It was to much trouble to return so I kept it.

I have some tight space sockets just for that application.

I second the vote for etrailer.com. Not for a Tacoma, but I ordered a DrawTite hitch and wiring harness for a Dodge Durango and was very impressed with the customer service and support.

I bet you can order a plug and play wiring harness from Toyota. I did for my SR Tundra. The hitch from Curtis bolted right up no problem.

Bet you could find a used one cheap. Check car-parts .com other sources for an OEM. Probably about $125 if not less.
