I have a 2006 4cyl Base Tacoma and I am looking to convert the truck to use buttons only for ACC,ON, and Start. Reason being is I only have my left arm and its a slight hassle to reach around the steering wheel to start the truck. I have done this mod on several other of my vehicles in the past, but they have been a lot older and had less wires. Vehicle theft is a probability I am willing to deal with. I had a look at the FSM and for the life of me I cant figure out which wires to jump to the three switches I need to accomplish the button only start. I will be eliminating the key tumbler switch and steering wheel lock. My truck did not come with an immobilizer. If anyone knows a company that I can just order a plug and play harness from, that would be great too. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to TW :hattip:.

I believe this is the actual switch:
    https://www.extremeterrain.com/taco...NptPESyuzZCib4SVzHDRoCJBkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.d

One picture, shows 7 terminals with test point holes. And the terminals labeled inside the connector. Find the constant feed(s) going to the switch then unplug the switch. Turn the key to ACC and measure the test points. Same for ON(run), and START.

Now you know what goes where, and can move forward.

Take a very very close look at the connector that you unplugged. Cell phone camera zoomed in... It has a number molded into it. Take that number to the dealer and ask if there's a mating connector body for it.

You might be able to make this plug and play. And completely, easily, reversible should the need arise.

Now that I've made you read that verbal vomit; @Jimmyh might be able to help you with drawings.

And gimme a bit, there's someone I call a connector guru.... I just can't remember his handle. I will edit this post when I find it.

    Good luck!

Edit: I'm having a brain fart. Can't remember his name or find the thread. I was hoping he could give you the connector answer that's in here somewhere...

Here is the switch wire colors:

    ( ACC ) = W-G White with Green Stripe
    ( IG1 ) L-Y = Lavender with Yellow Stripe.
    ( ST1 ) B-W = Black with White Stripe
    ( ST2 ) G-B = Green with Black Stripe
    ( AM2 ) W-R = White with Red Stripe
    ( AM1 ) W-L = White with Lavender Stripe
    ( IG2 ) B-R = Brown with Red Stripe

** Lavender looks blue to me.

There are kits you can buy to add a push button start to your truck (I've looked for my 2012 base model truck).

The question is about reliability of these products. I don't want to get stuck somewhere and I don't think you want to either.

Have you thought about moving the ignition switch to the left side of the dashboard? You'll probably have to get a custom panel made (or make one) and disable the steering wheel lock.
