Hi. A few months ago my truck stalled while having 1/2 tank. Dealer found tank empty and replaced fuel pump assembly

my gas gauge has been spotty since. I just got 33 tires and lift and at 332 miles was still showing 1/4 tank

decided to fill up because didn’t seem right. Pump took 21.0 gallons to fill

if I am correct second gen has 21.1 tank so looks like I almost ran out of gas

am I correct on this? Feeling like I got a faulty fuel pump replacement

    thanks

Close, 21 gallons is the capacity. But yes you were waaay too close. Never messed with it on these trucks but your fuel gauge is definitely wrong and not just a little bit. Make them take it back if you just recently had the work done.

Not the pump. Could be a faulty sending unit or bad fuel gauge. I don’t believe the sending unit is part of the pump.

I thought it’s part of it. When I ran out of gas with half tank showing dealership replaced fuel pump saying it was something in the assembly

While that may be correct, it's not the 'pump' that's bad. Its the sending unit component of the assembly.

Or as said, it could be the dash gauge.

Either way, back it goes for an improper repair. Either a faulty part or faulty diagnosis.

It does look like an assembly. Could be when they installed they bent the little float arm for the sending unit or could still be the gauge. Dummies should have confirmed at time of install the gauge went to empty and full.

I’m having this issue with my 2012 sport. I keep running out of gas but the guage says I have gas. Usually between 1/4 & 1/2 when I run out. Very frustrating… did you find a solution? I’d like to be able to accurately know how much gas I have. Kind of important

I have not. Should have taken back to dealership who did fuel pump, but now too much time has passed

my guaige works fine till it hits quarter tank. So no I just make sure to fill up before 300 miles and reset my trip after each fill up

Aha, thanks… I have too many things to remember these days. Feel like I’ll keep running out if I don’t fix it or find a better solution. It really messed my day up

...another good reason to pick up an ultra gauge, or scan gauge. Displays remaining fuel accurately to a couple 10ths of a gallon.

It's only accurate as the sending unit.

Not necessarily, I have an older UG and it is accurate. That said it is dependent upon the user updating the gauge fuel level every time one adds fuel.

Could be wrong, but I don't believe Ultra Gauge sources the the sending unit. I believe it calculate fuel consumption based on engine parameters. You need to program the tank size and, as stated, reset with a simple press of a button at fill up for it to be accurate. None of that would be needed if it was simply a digital representation of an analog signal.

This is true at least on the older ones (which I have).

Oh wow..mine I've had about 6-7 years and I got it used.

But agreed, I can't see how it could really sense all that at least once you add fuel without having to hardwire to the tank/sending unit. Not worth it anyway.
