If only you knew a welder

 

Yea, I don't even know anymore They used to be really sharp (mentally) back in the day and could do anything, but slowly as time passes on they've gone downhill a little. Medications do that. I think the side affects are worse than what it's treating. I help them out as much as I can, but this one was a facepalm. They even said "damn I'm stupid"

 

Dropped this tree over the weekend and split some wood. I really need a 20-24” bar for the 395xp. It currently has a 32” bar.

 

Well if it’s coming from the tire, I’d do is Mike and the others had suggested and try a tire goop or a tube. If it’s leaking at the rim, I would break the bead and clean up the rim then use a wheel sealant like this one before resetting the bead.

Links or suggestion for tire chains? I have a Kubota B7610 and it looks like I will use it to plow the driveway with a front mounted skid steer plow (my bucket has the skid steer quick attachments). Driveway is not overly steep but steep enough that I think chains is the smart move. Did a quick search and DAMN they’re not cheap

 

I looked at some a few years ago and they are expensive!!!

 

I couldn’t believe it. I was think 100-200 for a full set but it was that price per wheel almost

 

Im at the other end of the Kubota spectrum with a sub compact BX-23S with R4 tires. I use it to with a 60” plow to clear my 720 foot driveway during the winter. Northwestern Ontario winters. The driveway is a combination of flat, sloped, and a steep hill. I haven’t run into any issues running it without tire chains or wheel weights. Just the hoe, or my scraper box as a counter weight. I’ve been stuck a few times, but it was operator error, running off the edge of the driveway into the ditch, or trying to widen out to road by push the windrow out into the yard and losing traction in the sugar snow underneath the powder. I’ve always been able to get myself unstuck. Don’t make the same stupid mistakes I’ve made, and I’m of the opinion that you’ll be fine without chains.

 

Awesome input/feedback. My driveway is roughly 2000 foot but fairly wide and has a slope almost the entire way. I do have a circle at the top as well. The downside I have is one side of the driveway is a fairly steep bank and if I’m making any stupid mistakes on that side I’ll be in big trouble. I was planning to sand the driveway as well so I’ll have a big PTO spreader in the back for weight too. Are your tires in fairly good shape/newer? I’m new to owning a tractor but these tires on my seem rock hard and would just slide on snow/ice in my mind

 

It was late winter when I brought my tractor home, so I have 2 and a half winters on my tires now. Only about 125 hours on my machine at this point. There is some tire wear and cuts in the blocks from sharp rocks, but overall my edges are in good shape. In hindsight, turf tires may have been a better choice for me, but my tires work quite well, and I’ll probably chose a hybrid R4 when they do eventually wear out. If you have Ag tires, I would probably consider other options for snow, or chaining up. Something to consider though is that you want to have a nice packed base of snow, and you want to leave that down, not plow right down to the dirt. The thing is, that packed snow does not equate to slippery. Your traction is quite good on compacted snow, so your tractor should handle it just fine. What can get you is if your cutting edge catches. You want to be moving fast enough to curl the snow up and off the edge of your blade. If the cutting edge grabs at that speed, it tends to skew the machine in the direction the blade is angled. Hopefully, in that case, you just end up stuck in your bank, and not sliding off of the side entirely. To try to prevent that from happening, and it’s not entirely fool proof but close enough, I run my skid shoes with enough spacers to keep the cutting edge about 3/8 to one half inch above the surface. You can still catch on an uneven surface, like the transition from my driveway to the pad in front of my garage, but I’ve learned what height and angle I need to run the blade at when working that area through trial and error. For the most part though, I am able to just run the blade in float once the base is packed down.

 

Those keys are hard to shear!

My best guess they towed it at some point without releasing the brake or the hydraulic lock and the wheel stuttered and skipped on pavement impacting the key, about the only way I can see breaking one of those like that.

I thought about something removable like that but the lower flange on mine was so flimsy towing the empty trailer around the yard on just a hook through that hole was enough to slightly bend the flange, anything cantilevered out like yours would bend it right off.

So I built that 2x2" 1/4" SST and the 1/4" plate on top with the 45° gussets then welded all around if anything it reinforced the rear plate.

I'm considering welding a lifting eye onto the face of the vertical so I can hook up a shackle for a solid connection for dragging but I got the Tacoma winch for that if need be really.

Definitely the strongest part of my little lawn tractor though!

 

That might be 1/2", it was just a piece of steel I had around, seems plenty solid.
The chipper doesn't have much tongue weight and it never changes.
You painted yours too, I was too lazy.

 

I thought the same. Not everyone knows about the hydraulic pump bypass valves for each wheel.

 

My little tractor has a tiny wire L sticking out the back, pull it out release the parking brake and it free wheels easily, push it in and if you try to drag it the wheels will either skip or one turns backwards, forget you have it pulled out and you think the hydrostatic gave out because tractor no go nowhere.

 

Solenoid is the click I'm getting. Jumping it does not change anything re the engine not turning, though I"m not getting any sparkage from solenoid. Battery is good and I have a multimeter hit on battery and solenoid. F me.

 

Strippijg down another deck. Found a nut that was completly rounded off. This will not deter me from my goals!

Sacrificed an orphan socket. No problem once you add a little heat to the trouble.

I stopped sealing my driveway since by the time spring rolls around, you can’t tell I did it anymore from the chains..

 

That’s reusable now. Get your monies worth out of that socket..
