Thought the frond dif actuator went bad. Soldered. Didn’t help. Replaced it. Didn’t help. Now toyotas quoting me close to 3k for transfer case actuator replacement. Trying to figure out the reality behind the FJ transfer case swap. How much it costs how it’s done. I drive a 6-speed manual and have been struggling to find the transfer cases for sale online. Let me know what you guys think!!???

You’ll need an FJ case from an automatic Fj cruiser and to swap your input shaft from your current taco tcase. Swap should be under $500.

@6 gearT444E Is correct, there's an entire thread on FJ swaps here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/lets-see-your-fj-case-swap.455278/

Basically all the info you need is there but it is 130+ pages.

You need an FJ case from an automatic FJ cruiser, and as you have a manual you will have to rip down your case and the FJ case swap out the TC input shaft and planetary gearset then come up with a shift rod solution as the shifter would come up through your cup holder area approximately it's a task to be sure.

You can often find transfer case actuators from people whom have done the swap on here in the classifieds for $150-300 range.

I'll have mine for sale here when I do my swap here soon hopefully but that will be several weeks I expect.

What symptoms and or codes are you getting?

Have you opened your TC actuator up and checked for corrosion or damaged wires?

You might be diving into a 3k fix for a $3 problem without good and thorough diagnostics.

I would not trust the grease monkeys at the dealer they love to mag dump the parts shotgun these days on your budget.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
As my manual shifted homies mentioned the key is proper troubleshooting. If physically capable I highly recommend DIY all this stuff. Cheers!
