It’s been totally fine. It’s just the shift points are off because I’m using an A340E torque converter.

interesting. is that due to the weight differences of the 2w vs 4w?

No, the A340E torque converter has a different stall speed of roughly 300-400 RPM.

I'm not that savvy when it comes to trans but is there a reason for the different stall speeds? basically same truck and config, I'm just wondering for my own sake is all :)

Honestly I have no clue. I know the shifting on my truck is off because of that. That’s just what the transmission shop told me.

Yeah your truck won’t shift correctly because of that.

When building your truck at the factory , engineers match the stall speed with your engine size , the transmission ratio and your rear differential ratio to give the engine a mechanical advantage over the driving wheels .
When you install a transmission from a different year , it helps if you try to match all 3 of these .

So what exactly does it mean when the “stall speed” is different by 300-400 RPM?

Its probably going to be easier if I send you to Youtube and watch a converter video rather than me trying to explain things .Its going to be clearer for you to visualize when the stator begins turning
Stall speed in basic form is how much gas you have to give your engine in order for your truck to begin to move forward
When you have a visual , its easier to understand whats going on inside the converter and how the stator begins driving the transmission input shaft .
An old video if you have 9 minutes to spare

I'm going to pull a necro post on this old thread to update with an interesting find. When I pull up part#s for the 2002 Tacoma A340E torque converter and the part# for a 1999 Limited 4Runner A340F (transmission I'm using in my swap) - The TCs are both the same. Identical parts. 3200035150

So guess I'm not going to have the littlest concern about stall speed after all. The 5VZFEs had the same TC.
