I evacuated the power steering fluid by using a vacuum fluid evacuator, I have the Migtyvac 7400. Vacuum out the reservoir and disconnect the low pressure rubber tube. Use a tube and a plug to cap off the port on the side. Stick the vacuum tube down the rubber tube and start pumping. I used about 2 quarts to make sure I flush it all out.
The original fluid is brown, after 120k miles anyway .
The new fluid I put in is a Dexron 3 equivalent made by Valvoline.
Yeah, You can use a Turkey baster method but you may not get it all.
I'm sure many of you all are already doing this but I thought I'd share this.

I'm a believer in the old back and forth, slow suck method. (not saying this is wrong, just another view)

Dextron is a cleaning fluid, so putting fresh in, cycling it, and constantly removing it until its clean is how I do it. Most techs do this fluid exchange method now.

Perhaps a hybrid of both is ideal, I also don't like touching old clamps on old hoses.

Can you be more specific about exactly what this slow suck method is?

FYI Dexron II/III is in my owners manual with no other substitutes.

I think he is referring to the Turkey baster method or something like that.
The point is to flush it. Your truck, your choice of method.

Ya Dex 3 is a detergent, really all oil is, but transmission oil behaves like a cleaner more than most oils, so getting it hot and cycling it makes it behave like soap.

That said, the video make sense as you evacuate all of it and put fresh in. Not saying its wrong, but I'd suck it out one more time after a few drives.

Most techs like me were taught to use a suction hose while its running, empty the tank, fill it, steer back and forth. Repeat.

Might as well refresh your brake fluid too. I did both at 80k on mine.

For anyone who is super OCD, Prestone sells "Asian vehicle" PSF which is DexIII without the red dye, so it matches the Toyota factory fill of the steering fluid.

I bought 2 bottles a while back and did the baster exchange method over a few weeks.

Does the Prestone come in quart size or pint size?

I may do it one more time but I still have other maintenance I need to do first.

Just those small 12oz bottles.. and they're expensive.. Walmart had it for the cheapest in my area and I think I paid $7/ea but now they are $10+ each.

The price of OCD lol. But it is a synthetic formula which might be an upgrade over normal DexIII?
