Hi there, new owner here. The other thread on these seems quite a bit more positive, the negativity here seems to be stemming from the overall value of it. This kit is what, $1400 with the grill? Back a couple hundred out for the grill, is there a better way for me to spend the same $1200 and get a 2" front / 1" rear lift that maintains or improves on road manners over stock (like this kit does)? Primarily interested in on road performance, I will be doing minimal serious off-roading.

    Thanks!

The kit can't be bought without the grill (which makes people salty). Not sure where you got the 1400 number at.

That said if you could get the whole kit installed for 1200, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a cheaper and better alternative.

Unfortunately, you're unlikely to have it installed for 1200. The consensus from all the threads on it is that it's 2000ish. And at 2000 there are choices for significantly better suspension upgrades.

I see lots of cheaper, but are they better?

This got me thinking, so I pieced it together online and it came out to $1189.50 before shipping. The grill is $148.50 of that, so it works out to $1,041 for the suspension (plus shipping). Seems reasonable to me, especially for those us of want that grill anyway and/or are under warranty and have difficult dealerships.

Would a stage 1 Eibach setup be comparable? That does include springs as well, seems like maybe $700 that route, no grill of course. Or the OME 'essentials' kit for $950?

That 1189 is just parts.... If youre looking to spend 1200 on just the parts - you can get 5160s + 1"blocks for the rear for $400-420. You can get bilstein 6112's up front for 730ish. They will be significantly better than stock and the TRD kit. I can't speak intelligently about any other lifting kit - sorry.

toyota changed the part numbers. It use to be a part number for just the shocks for $315. now they are listed as front set and rear set. I just ordered them today for $200 for all the shocks on a sale. I never got a cancelation on my order like i was getting everytime I tried to order the shock set with the old part number
so if you dont want all the other junk and just the shocks cant beat this price

    A few.
Careful with your ordering. I saw where they had it set up where a part number was only for one shock. You might have just ordered one front shock and one rear shock. I would double check. In fact Im guessing fr means front right and rr means rear right.

i talked with my rorich dealer when I found out about this part change when i was trying to order the old part number for all 4 shocks and he told me it was for both shocks front and rear. guess we shall see if my order comes in and if its with all 4. the part number calls them shock kit front and shock kit rear so that sounds like 2 and 2

The other thing to consider (money aside) is that you retain the full Toyota warranty. That may not matter to some, of course, but that is a huge value add for the less experienced tinkerer, like me.

Valuable for me as well, my local dealership is known to be difficult. I'd rather not give them an excuse to potentially deny a warranty claim down the road for something peripherally related to the lift. That said, if it's a significant price difference I don't know that it's worth it.

If you're not having them install it, you don't get the warranty. You can't just buy the shocks and have them install - you need to get the entire kit. You buy and install the shocks and have the TSS quit working - they will definitely not cover the TSS.

The parts themselves might have a warranty (same as any other shock)

The parts have a one year warranty if installed on a used truck, 3 years/36k miles installed on a brand new vehicle by the dealership. I just mean that if I go to the dealership for something suspension related and I've installed these, I expect I'll have less trouble than if I show up with Bilstein 6112's or something else. Know what I mean?

I dont see the problem with this set up. I think some of the people pointing out its too expensive for what it is, may also be some of the folks spending thousands of bucks on King suspension parts and doing fire roads and grocery store trips with them.
Get what ya want folks. But if you post it here, there will be no shortage of people in line to take a shit on it.

    Still stock completely capable!
I agree that this all comes down to function! If you are going to do logging roads to your favourite fishing spot or look cool at the mall this kit is perfect! Kind of like how most people on this site would be better with a Ridgeline. But for anyone actually hard off-roading this isn’t the right kit... But anyone asking what suspension to get probably is not into hardcore off-road.. first step is pick what you want out of your truck next is build Accordingly. This lift is awesome because of the Warranty and like you said most people will never need more! A lot of hate on something that is perfect for most people needs lol!

I get what you're saying, and it's fine - but no one is paying 1200 to have this kit installed a dealership. People are on this thread linking the price of the shocks and saying - yup, worth it. Point blank, you need to buy the entire kit (including the grill and mm wave sensor) and have the dealership put it on if you want a warranty.

If paying 2000 for the peace of mind on a one year warranty on a small suspension upgrade is worth it to you - that's great. I truly tossed it around myself and just landed on wanting a significantly better quality suspension for $2000.

Yeah, I think the bilstein 6112 in front with 5000 and aal in back makes more sense for me.

It sounds like you could go to a shop and get a replica of this lift for way cheaper. (Which wouldn’t include warranty from Toyota or the grill/sensor). If you did go somewhere else, could you go to Toyota and just get the grill/sensor so that your maintaining the safety/functionality? Seems like that would be a way to save some money if you aren’t worried about Toyotas warranty.

like others have said, some Toyota dealers can be aggressive about not covering things they say are impacted by aftermarket parts. It’s less about the warranty on the lift and more about the effect on the total vehicle warranty.
