    Hi All.

I'm looking for some insight - thoughts - ole internet advisement on this.

I'm converting a 2002 double cab pre runner to 4X4. I sourced a transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, and quite a few other parts from a gent. I'm about all the way there with the conversion parts / lift components and I cracked the pan off the transmission which he had installed a transgo shift kit in, filter, and empty of fluid - to find a bit of a white congealed paste in the pan and around some of the valve body.

I'm thinking this is from humidity or sitting with only residual fluid in the trans for probably close to a year now. Any thoughts? Could this be a bigger problem, worth having the trans gone through? It was pretty clean besides that.

    Thank you.

Maybe they used some cheap azz assembly goo when installing that shift kit or worse yet, maybe this...

Only thing you can do aside from a full tear down inspection by a transmission shop (or you using the transmission FSM *see thread I linked below*) or button it up and let it drain back into the pan or even stand it up for a bit on the transfer case end. Be sure its supported if you do, don't want to have it tip over unexpectedly. See what drains out after an hour of gravity. If you get anything else like the above, I'd start looking at alternative transmissions. Maybe you could pull the output shaft and swap it into your 340E.

    Sorry bud, that completely sucks.

If you do end up running with it, I highly suggest doing a drain and fill or even a flush using Tim's method as detailed HERE once you get it on the vehicle and installed. From there you can figure out your action plan when that fluid starts cycling and you can visualize it. If its clear and no further traces, maybe run it and repeat the drain and fill again in a short amount of miles to see if it's truly a non issue. **NOTE: If you do go this route, might end up contaminating your radiator cooler and/or aftermarket trans cooler if one is in the loop**

@gearcruncher might have a thought or two. Take a look at his thread if you decide to tear down into it. He has info there which can help greatly.

    WATER .
In his picture it shows a small amount of water that never had the chance to mix with the transmission fluid . As mentioned , change out all the fluid and send it .

Now the 518 dodge transmission shown in the 3rd picture . thats usually caused by anti freeze .
anti freeze removes the bonding glue on your transmission clutch plates . if you catch anti freeze the same day , you may have a chance of flushing it out without doing damage

I'm going to chock it up to a small amount of water getting in through the unsealed pan during washing... It's been draining with the pan off for a few days now. Going to swap it in - flush it - send it. Will report back if there's any issues when the time times.

    Thanks all!

SMOD - Strawberry Milkshake of Death -- when it happens from a failed radiator ATF cooler. But this doesn't look that bad.
