Downshifting

I have a 2022 SR5, do all tacomas downshift frequently?

 

Like when you slow down, or on a hard acceleration? .... or just going up a hill

My 2020 sr5 is smarter than i am when it comes to up or downshifting. It seems to know when sooner than i do.

 

Downshift, upshift - yes.
It's a narrow power band 3.5V6 (I assume - you didn't say) with a 6-speed auto that tries to manage that power band and satisfy the Fed's emission requirements.
You'll get used to it - I did.

Yes, they shift wayyyy too much.
