New truck on the way! If they build it lol.

Putting together my new suspension. Keeping it simple but slightly better then my 2nd Gen in the rear. Im going 5100 in the front with stock coils. And spc upper control arms (love that high caster plus future proof)

Rear is getting the icon RXT leaf pack. The leaf pack will be set at option one, 1.875" lift unloaded. Or maybe option 2 for 2.25" unloaded 1.75" with 200lb. Depending how the dirtbikes feel. Now the question is do I go with billstein 5100 or the 5125 for the extra length. Kindoff right in that Grey area at 1.5-2" lift. I think I'm more likely to bottom out than top out being I never do technical off roading. So I'm leaning towards the 5100. But what do you guys think? The 5100 are also cheaper because I can get a good deal as set of 4

I’d suggest the 5125 to properly take advantage of the extra travel the leaf pack will provide plus it’s more in that lift range.

Note: I did zero research between the two shocks, I just went off of your post lol.

Get the longer shock. You're effectively using the shocks as limit straps otherwise.

Thought I would revive this as it's the exact question I have right now. Thought maybe more could give their opinions.

Following this. I'm getting ICONs RXT Multi-rate pack soon and am looking to set it at option 1 since I don't carry any constant load. I currently have 5100s in the rear with wheeler's AAL for 1.5". With the Option 1, estimated 1.875" lift unloaded, would it be suggested to swap to 5125s for the extended travel length? Will it reduce my up-travel any way?

Also I'm considering adding sumo springs to replace the rear and front bump stops. Anyone have thoughts on this set-up?

    Appreciate updates/help/feedback!!

We recommend the 5125s to marry up with the RXTs to capture the additional downtravel that the RXTs can provide. Since you have the additional thickness of the RXT pack pushing the bump stop upwards you won't be running into compression issues either with the new shock. You technically won't be able to stuff the rear tire as far up into the wheel well since the bumpstop is higher, but since you're lifting the vehicle your new centerpoint is different.

Without further confusing things... If the budget allows for it go for the 5125s and you're off to the races. We did this setup on @tonered truck and to my knowledge things are still going swimmingly!

Side note - We have a couple RXTs in stock as well as 5125s here at Hotshot Offroad if you haven't committed to purchasing from somewhere else.

    Oh yeah.

I was just out last weekend getting some fun in. The Taco flexs and crawls like a champ. The 5125 rears are still just a few dollars more than the 5100s, right?

I'd been over a year and about 20,000mi of fun.

Thank you for this. Exactly what I was looking to hear. I'll check out the 5125s from your site!

My experience has been different with the 5125s.

I have a wheelers AAl in the rear, with the overload leaf in. Don't remember the measurement, but about 2.5 in.

I couldn't compress the 5125s enough to install them with the truck sitting on the ground.

Making some measurements, the compressed length was bigger than the distance between the mounts when on the stock bumps.

I still have them in the garage.

This was a couple years ago though, so maybe I have the wrong 5125s?

I got th from Headstrong offroad.

My brake lines are tight with 5160 shocks, which are 1/4” shorter than the 5125s. There is a good chance you’ll need brake lines

Thanks for the input. Was leaning towards getting it and this is good to confirmation.

With 5160s/Opt 1 I generally say no. I know guys with 5125s and RXTs also running stock lines, but I definitely recommend them as you’ll be TIGHT TIGHT. We can help ya out if you haven’t sourced components!

Happy to help. I’m going to install 4” lines to give plenty of slack in case I go with longer shocks later on

Just installed icon rxt option 3 with 5125s, can confirm brake lines are really tight. I bought longer lines and plan on installing them soon

I got a set of Crown performance extended brake lines for 2" lift - I would definitely do it, dropping the axle to get the leaf pack on option 3 to fit had me sweating lol. Keeping the truck on the street until I get them installed

Just did the install Saturday - Icon RXT Leaf Pack Option 2 with 5125s in the rear to replace stock leafs + AAL & 5100s.

Took me and my dad about 7 hours with a break in the middle. Our most difficult part was getting front leaf eyelet to align properly. Alot of pry work and we made it through. For the 5125s, we had to grind the sleeve down and cut about halfway on the bushings on both sides to make it fit easily. I compared the original bushing to my 5100s and made the cuts as close as I could to the 5100 sizes.

I went with option 2 since the leaf pack I bought from my friend were already set at option 2. They had settled a bit since they've been on my friend's pro, and when I put them on, I did not lose any ride height in the rear from my stock leaf + AAL, which was great! My measurements in the rear were still around 23" give or take. My front is at 22" give or take (5100s, stock springs, 5th perch setting).

The ride quality was night and day, even my wife noticed the difference and she never pays attention to the mods I put in :).

I didn't put the extended brake lines in there yet as I couldn't get a good flex in the driveway, so that's still up in the air but an easy install in the future.

If I was going to do it again, I would've gone 5100s in the front or 6112s, and definitely would've done a new leaf pack in the rear with extended shocks.
