    Guys :

Struggling changing front rotors. Unable to seat hub far enough in on spindle. I bought new hub seals(fromToyota) but I did not buy new inner or outer bearings. Presently working on Passenger side front hub/rotor. I am unable to get hub/rotor seated far enough in on spindle. It is getting held up on inner bearing. So I am thinking I need to get new inner bearings. Might as well get the outer bearings also. I have had this great truck since 2011. Never have replaced bearings on this truck before. Last time I just repacked bearings with grease when I did the rotors. Reason why I decided to change rotors this time was because I had a pulsating brake pedal and when I pulled tires I noticed rotors had a groove cut into rotor. I believe brake pad clips (where pads slide) were rubbing or cutting into rotor. Appreciate any help or advice please.

Did you get the correct spacer for the hub?
They are different depending if it's abs or not and I think there's another option too

You need to pop out the old outer races if you plan on replacing them.

First simply try to slide the original bearing onto the spindle and see if it moves freely. There's no reason it shouldnt work again.

    1. Thanks I did not know I need a spacer. My Tacoma is not ABS.
    2. I actually thought of removing the new seal and seeing if the inner bearing just slides on there.
    3. Thanks for welcoming me to Tacoma World ! Really glad you guys are out there. It is a 5 Lug.
Is there any way of looking at the inner bearing to see if it is still good ? Reason why I ask is I kind of wonder if I may have damaged inner bearing. I took a piece of wood 2X4 block of wood and placed it against lugs and tapped on wood to see if hub would move onto spindle further.

I do not know how to replace races in hub. So I hope I can just use old inner bearing. Tomorrow I will take new seal out and see if old inner bearing just slides on spindle. I guess if it doesn't then I will need to replace inner bearing and the inner bearing race. Should I also replace outer bearing also?

Bearings are mated, if you use different bearings and races they will fail quickly. I'd sooner just repack the old bearings and be on your way.

Thanks Area 51! I will keep you posted. Going outside now to try and remove brand new seal. Then see if inner bearing will just slide onto spindle. Original issue , I believe was, brake pad clips scoring rotors. There was a pulsating brake pedal. I hope clips are not too close to rotors. I was planning on reusing old brake pads. They still have life in them. I will keep everyone posted. Maybe even pictures.
    Thanks.

Run a search for "2003 tacoma FSM" and get yourself a copy of the pdf. It will have all the removal and installation instructions for the entire truck. They list the differences for the 5 lug by engine type.

I wouldn't run old pads with new rotors. Brake systems aren't really a great place to save a few bucks.
