Has anyone made a backyard bathtub using an old iron tub or stock tank? If so, how did you heat it?

How Hot and for How long ??Are you talking for humans or cleaning metal goodies??

Back yard or back yard off the grid in the North 40.

Electric or Gas Hot Water heater . Hot water coil on a boiler .

I used a wood fire to heat a tank/tub for cleaning engine blocks years ago no need to control the temperature.

The wife would like a tub she can soak in and see the stars. My thought was to get a stock tank, 2x2x6, and use a propane burner under it so that temp control is easier. Build a wood seat to go inside it and boom. But not sure if that's a good way to go about it. It would have to be an off grid style

Controlling the heat will take some trial and error not like you want the Mrs to be cooked.

It might be possible to use a thermostat but then your getting into electronic control .

The simple way might be heat shut off temp cools down reheat and repeat. The pain will be filing it every time she wants to use it.

Hot tubs can be bought real cheap with minor simple to fix problems it might be the way to go if possible

    Good luck.

The hidden ugly truth behind stock-tank tubs is that they aren't insulated for squat. Sure, they are prime instagram material, but you can't maintain a consistent heat nor can you keep them clean. At least not without a ton of maintenance and work.

I second the hot tub idea. There are so many of them coming on the market that are both overfiltered and can be operated on 110V, that they even have me considering one.

Heck, even an old-fashioned "cedar-barrel" tub would be a cool choice, if you can find one on CL.

Just make sure the flow doesn’t exceed the heating capacity. Hook up an RV water pump to the tub. Fill tub pull water from the tub through the camplux and circulate. There may be a heat limiter on the unit???would need to check what temp it shuts down.
