Hello, back in July on vaction with my wife and all of our kids I destroyed a deer with our van. It did about 7500 worth of destruction to our 2016 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite. I am at this moment in Tallahassee to finally pick it up in the morning. There is a blizzard pearl 2016 Limited 4x4 fulltime with 3rd row seats, on the way home.

I am 10 hours from the only shop that can provide warranty on both HID headlamps, ignitors, and bulbs, radiator, condensor, transcooler lines, and body panels and paint.

I feel like I have unlimited potential for loss, and no way to make good on the warranty provided by the shop since I live in Kentucky.

I can get a certified Toyota and have a vehicle I trust explicitly.

I can keep the van, and really have no guarantee I even get it home.

I have done all maintenance on the van myself. It was immaculate, but now severely damaged and repaired.

Anybody see any glaring flares in my reasoning?

We have been making do with a 7 passenger rental van for 90 days.
We have 2 girls, one son, a step daughter, a neice and her baby, and another neice.

    I know........

We have been using the Lexus es300 and the tacoma and just making it work for long enough I am able to give up the 8th passenger in the Odyssey.

The runner is blizzard pearl with redwood leather which doesn't really matter except that it is freaking awesome looking.

Anyway if you understand or think I am a wackjob let me know.

I dont have to, but I am awful nervous about a vehicle repair at a non certified honda shop, as that is all geico could find that could even get it in. I know no one down here.
They refused to tow to Kentucky.

so I’ll be honest - found this thread because I’m looking at getting an Odyssey, same gen as yours. How’d you like yours before the accident? Hope you were all ok.

as far as the 4Runner goes - it’s not crazy to keep the van but it’s not crazy to get rid of it either. It comes down to your level of risk comfort and how much you’d want the utility of the van over the 4Runner. Neither move is bad, they’re just different. If I’ve learned anything from
TW it’s that vehicle purchases are rarely more practical than they are emotional, and that’s ok. It’s even a good thing, or we’d all be driving minivans haha. Just gotta think it through and pick the option you’re most comfortable with.

Well the van was great. The repaira were not right. Not even close to right. That was the welding.

In addition the van would not start this morning. I just got home last night. It was 35 degrees this morning, but the van thought the engine was a operating temperature according to the gauge. I traded it today for a 2019 SR5 4runner with 27,000 miles lease return. 20221018_074536.jpg 20221018_161452.jpg
