You got to take that down.
It will never last.
There is so much crap that will break off get into places it shouldn’t.
I have also not seen a split connecting rod.
Then again I have only seen a handful of old Willy’s and never one disassembled.

 

Why would you disagree?
Did I miss something?
That sucks cause if I did, there’s like a couple of hundred trucks and SUV’s driving around
with a incomplete procedure.. not good.

Yeah it's getting fully stripped and hot tanked. He's going to take it to a local engine builder to see what his options are at that point. Probably new sleeves, hardened valve seats, new bearings throughout, new valves, and new camshaft. We're fairly confident the crank is still good, albeit with a polish probably.

Back after it today. 2 Windows and 1 door in. 1 window remains. Then putting all the siding & trim back. Good times!

Not quite as challenging as that boat mooring you're working on.

At least all I'm on the "hook" for is disassembly and tools. Once it's fully stripped he's taking it outta my shed and doing what he can with it and having it rebuilt.

I'm pretty efficient at it. After we saw that the connecting rods were seized in the piston, and the piston had become one with the block, I brought out the big shaft. There was no way those rods or pistons are being used again, so a little destructive disassembly wasn't a problem. The real trick was not hitting the cylinder wall or deck of the block.

Well....the dealerships are where the professionals are at. It's hit and miss with backyard mechanics.
