I'm not into cool stuff, but practicality, why carry two air compressors when you could use one to do it all? I have the VIAIR 400P and it's absolutely sufficient for airbags, lockers, tire connections. I might have missed some of your conversation but carrying two compressors seems silly when you could use one to do it all. I get redundancy also but dual air systems seems like overkill.

When you say your honest with yourself, is it because of technical knowledge? Not trying to make fun or be rude but just curious.

    Portable for me.

I like the concept of OBA, but I do not need to carry everything every day…

I carry a super light plug powered unit for everyday/ emergencies. (In all our cars).

I have the smittybuilt 2.5 cfm for trips. It is fast but hefty. If you mod the base, it will fit in the cubby behind the seat. Pretty nifty.

Also - It is the Most air for the $$$

Bro…. the wire nuts and electrical tape have nothing to do with the final wiring. They were merely temporary connections while I moved other things and tested function.

I have always carried a portable air compressor, hose, guage and whatnot.

I found myself skipping the task of airing down because I dreaded the thought of having to dig out the whole unit, set it up, and go about slowly airing up each tire one at a time.

Because of this laziness, I found that I got hung up on trails more often, took chucks out of my tires spinning over rough rocks instead of the tire wrapping itself over them. And forced myself to deal with a generally rougher ride on forest roads and OHV trails.

OBA takes away that back of the mind feeling of impending hassle.

The only thing I have to pull out and set up is my DIY Morrflate setup that coils up and stores beautifully in a heavy duty jumper cable bag.

Now I air down on most forest roads and all trails if I suspect that I will be on them for 20-30mins or longer, or if traction/ride quality dictate.

Great thread! I have a cheap portable but just picked an ARB Twin for OBA installation... damn, these compressors have spiked in price recently.

ARB Twin Compressor with the Wifey air system operated with a SwitchPro. If you're handy, you can add to the manifold a supply line for the air locker or other accessories.

Viar 300 P for up to 33" tires. I prefer the "Grab -N-Go" factor of the portable ones, as I can use it for any other of my vehicles I may be driving at the time.

For only lockers a small viair will do the job but why not get something that will fill tires quick too?

I did the 100% duty cycle viair with a tank at 180psi and with 33” I can take 2 tires from 20psi to 35psi in under 2 minutes.

If I could do it over I’d go with the ARB twin compressor though. It would have saved more space but at the time I didn’t want to spend the extra $$.

Does this create issues if you need to get to your fuse box?

I mounted my Twin Air on the passenger side with a mount from OK4WD. It hasn't obstructed access to anything YET

Hey man I replied to a post of yours in an old thread, but this one seems to be more active so might be more helpful to ask here. I love this set up and am thinking about doing something similar with my Maxi Trac compressor. Do you have this plumbed to somewhere outside of the cab? I'd love to have my compressor hard mounted behind the seats like this, feeding a tank under the truck and a manifold in the engine bay, I'm just not sure what the best route for airline is to get it out of the cab from behind the (closed) seats.

Eibach suspension, nitto ridge grapplers (factory size with 1" spacers), Ripp coils, k&n blackhawk intake, magnaflow exhaust, magnuson sc, j&l catch can, optima yellow battery. ARB onboard twin woth tank ordered. ECGS front and rear with 5.29 and arb lockers coming next.

I just ordered the M.O.R.E twin arb, 1lb tank, and mount (based on extreme terrains assessment of vehicle fitment) ... but... the abs unit sits where the tank needs to mount.. is the ABS module located somewhere else on the offroad, or does your mount stand over it? (My break module is over the passenger fender behind the air box)

Comparing air pumps. I see a lot of single piston pumps rated higher and better than dual piston pumps. How is that? Wouldn't 2 pistons be better than 1? By a factor of double?
