I am new to this 01 Tacoma 2.4 the engine has a lot of fan noise...Is this normal?

Just purchased a 2001 Tacoma 2wd w 2.4 auto w 195k on the clock. I notice the engine has a lot of fan noise which is fine but just checking to make sure that this is what she is supposed to sound like. When I say fan noise I mean it just sounds like the cooling radiator fans running on high while she shifts through first and second gears of the auto.....she quiets down in overdrive.

Sounds like the fan clutch may be locked up.
See if you can rotate the fan by hand with the engine off, it should rotate smoothly with a slight to moderate drag.

 

Interesting.....so u are saying this 2.4 isnt a fan happy ( sounding ) engine? Ya I have been chasing a rough idle issue which is common for this engine and fan clutch is on the list anyway...so if I could do the fan clutch and lose the fan noise that would be great. Are there any vids on the fan clutch replacement?
