Lower Control Arm under upward tension with only alignment bolts?

    Quick work in progress question since in all the videos I’ve watched, I haven’t seen this happen.

    In the beginning stage of replacing the lower shock bushings on my Icons. Pulled the tire, pulled the lower control arm ball joint bolts, and pulled the lower shock mount bolt, but my LCA has a lot of upward spring tension in it for some reason.

    Is this semi-normal tension coming from the alignment bushings? I’ve not seen a video where the LCA doesn’t just fall away with all that disconnected, but I’m that person that has weird stuff happen so I figure it’s worth the ask before I get too deep.

    As it stands, I’ve got new LCA’s and Poly Performance taco tabs I was planning on installing anyway so it could all come out, but I’d rather ask and find out it’s just inexperience than to miss something I haven’t read/seen.

    Loosen them up all the way. There will be alot of tension if your cams are seized. Double check them first before reinstalling anything. If they are seized, now is the time to replace while everything is apart.

    Rubber bushings do that. They have a finite amount of travel in either direction from the point in which they were torqued. That's why you torque them at ride height, so they can have the least amount of rotational stress on them.

    Thanks sir, that’s kind of what I expected, but I probably missed that part about torquing them at ride height for sure, so now I’m definitely glad I asked!
