Picked up a lunar rock manual OR premium last weekend, didn’t really want a sunroof but the leather interior option apparently forced it. The more aggressive rear end does make the truck feel “closer” to my old 2007 4.0 FJ but I still feel a noticeable low end torque difference from 1500-2200 rpm. Paid basically sticker but no sales tax in KY due to active duty military status. Had to drive 200 miles to find it and local dealer wanted $2500 over sticker for the lunar rock color and couldn’t find a manual. Interestingly, every truck in lot had the oem hard tonneau cover and bed step. Dealer said Toyota had extra parts that they forced on them. The main driver for me was the fact that I wanted lunar rock and I think the manual is going by by when they change the body style.

Thanks gents, I’m a long term Toyota guy as was my grandfather, father, and uncle. Really wish I could have gotten the double cab long bed in a manual but Toyota seems to be taking all the best options (imo) away. I’m most active on supraforums, as I’ve owned 10 mkiv turbos over the years.

Nice truck. Never driven the old 4.0, but yeah the 3.5L really has no torque at all down low. The frustrating situations are when you’re slowing down for a stop light or similar, get down to like 5-8 mph and then the light turns green or whatever the slowdown was speeds back up. Too fast for 1st typically unless you really perfectly rev match, otherwise you use 2nd with absolutely no power at all. The 4.30s help but really I wish the transmission was geared better/closer. Oh well. I’m really looking forward to a regear on mine even with stock tires. Otherwise I really like the truck. Just glad they offer the manual, hard to really critique it when it’s one of the only options.

    Enjoy!

Your last sentence summarizes my thoughts, it satisfied my desire for a manual and in the color I wanted. My parents have had rx350 and es350 Lexus vehicles and the motor feels just fine in those platforms and the reliability and longevity seems to be there, I just got spoiled with the 4.0 in my old FJ.

What state did you end up going to? I found one in Columbia Tn that they wanted $5,000 over MSRP. Found 2 in Illinois one at MSRP and one for less. Same configuration as yours. Haven’t finalized anything yet but in the process. Long live the manuals!

Northern, KY area (Kerry Toyota) is where I found this one. It’s really weird because some dealers seem to receive a low but steady stream of manuals and others get literally zero manual allocations. I had some dealers laugh with a dismissive tone and say they hadn’t seen a new manual Tacoma in 5 years lol…

There is a dealer outside Chicago (Elgin Toyota -speak to Moe) that I spoke with but it was longer drive, however their prices weren’t at or below MSRP…. depending on trim.
