Let's See Your Dogs!!

Max is a rescue also. Here he is when we first picked him up.

About six months after Hercamer passed, my wife asked if I was ready to think about getting another dog. I said maybe and later that day she stopped by my work and said she had found a perfect dog for me at the shelter in Merlin. She was real exited so we went there after work. Well the dog she was looking at earlier had already been adopted,but they had a few other young dogs so would we like to look at them? Sure. Well Max was sitting there looking at me much like in the first picture. Super cute. He took to me right away and when they brought him into the meeting room he just wouldn't leave me alone. I was still a bit unsure, so we left to think on it. They said he was bout six months old and probably wouldn't get much bigger. His owners had went to jail for something and had to surrender all their dogs. We didn't get far and returned to the shelter and filled out the paperwork and "Petey" as they were calling him was ours.

Well it turns out he was more like 4 months old and had quite a bit of growing left to do!
He topped out at about 65 pounds. He is almost 3 now.I don't think he had a real good time as a puppy before we got him as he was AFRAID of kids! He has gotten a lot better, but we are very careful when introducing kids to him.

He sure is a great dog, and I am so glad someone adopted that other dog my wife saw that day. He thinks I am the coolest thing in the world and sticks close to me wherever we go. Sure he will shoot off after a squirrel or deer when we are out in the mountains, but is back checking in usually within a minute or two.

My mother in-law got us a DNA test for him for Christmas and here are the results:
66% American Staffordshire Terrier
13% Siberian Husky
10% Bullmastiff
6% Australian Cattle Dog
3% Beauceron
2% Mexican Street Dog
Quite the mix!
