Newbie...Need new tires...size questions

Hello, I recently purchased a 2019 trd sport this year and need some new tires. Majority of my traveling is interstate but of course backroads on the weekends for some hobbies. The truck came with P265/65R17's but i would like something more aggressive. Im going with BF Goodrich Trail terrains but would like to go up in size for a more aggressive look. What size should i go with? I do not have a lift and do not intend on lifting soon...maybe a level in a couple months.
I was thinking of going with 275/70's. I prefer to keep my gas mileage 18mpg+

 

I recently went from the stock 16" 265/70R16 to a 265/70R17 BFG K02. They are the same width and same sidewall height, but an inch taller overall. No clearance issues and no lift.

Go with the 265/70/17 tire, as mentioned it will be about an inch taller and the more aggressive treads will substantially improve the looks without sacrificing the drivability and minimal MPG loss.

A couple of things to keep in mind. A 265/70R17, while an inch larger diameter, will only give you 1/2 inch more ground clearance. Also consider the weight of the tire when thinking about MPG loss. An E rated tire is a good amount heavier than a standard load tire and will result in lower MPG. Another thing to think about is that one will usually give up some on-road manners in order to get a more aggressive off-road capability. There will be more road noise to an aggressive off-road tire, so think about where you spend the majority of your time and what type of off road tire you need for the driving you do.

Correct, and there are many 265-70-17 tires in SL casing.

I've got the BFG Trail Terrains in 265/70/17. Great tires.

They don't make a 275/70/17, so unless you want to jump to 285 and start modifying your truck to fit, 265/70/17 is one of popular options for 17.

The Trail Terrains are actually lighter than the stock Toyo A30s that came OEM on my truck, and being a less aggressive tread, means great mpgs!

You cannot go up in size and weight without decreasing your mpg. Won't happen. Expect1-2 mpg loss based on upsizing tires. Pay to play man.

 

Sets still pop up, not cheap, lug nuts with locks are very specific, and the wheels are 'vin locked'.

 

Nobody makes a 265/75/17 but if you know of a tire in that size I want it.

 

These seem perfect for your needs. This is what Im going with eventually. More aggressive than the A30s, but not as aggressive as, say, the BFG AT's. Still lightweight, but gain an inch in diameter.
I personally think they look great on a Sport. Fit right in with the rest of the Sport look. Maybe not aggressive enough for the OR or Pro though.

 

I made a mistake, 265-70-17

 

Yep, I've had ko2s and other more aggressive AT tires. For my mainly street driven truck, I wanted a p-metric tire that is snowpeak rated and quiet. The trail terrains fit the bill for me. I've also seen reviews on this tire for off reading and it looks like it can hold its own too!

 

How long have you had this combo? How do you like it over the time you have had them? I am considering the same combo for my GX.

 

I've has this set on for 2 months and about 2k miles now. I also had a set of Toyo At3s on this same truck for a week. I absolutely loved the ride quality and steering feel of the at3s, but they were just too loud for my taste.

The trail terrains have been great. Whisper quiet, nice and smooth and they balanced well. I have yet to do snow driving (which is one of the reasons why I went with them) but looking forward to it.

 

I have Toyo at2s and they are super quiet and my son's Taco has At3s and I don't hear a peep out of those as well. I'm surprised someone thinks they are noisy.
