So I did a coolant flush and left the one way valve installed where you attach your garden hose too. After the flush went for a quick drive. Long story short the one way valve isn't so one way! Watched the temp gauge get about 1/4in from touching red, check engine light popped on and within 4-5seconds I pulled over and shut it off. Let it cool, filled the radiator back up, put the cap on where the garden hose hooks up. Fired right up, drove about a mile and had to wait for a train so immediately shut it back off. Train passes, cranks right back up and I drive 3/4 of a mile home. Noticed the temp got a little over halfway as I parked the truck. Next day before I tried to start it I replaced, thermostat and plugs also drained and refilled radiator with 50/50 coolant mix. Now it won't start. Pulled plugs looked at pistons with borescope, dry with carbon build up 240,000 miles, normal, but not washed by coolant. Oil looks great, not milky. No smoke or steam ever came from the exhaust at any point. Checked compression 100, 30, 80, 85psi. ‍♂️ any chance the rings got stuck from the heat? Im kinda at a loss. Im getting spark and fuel. Zero signs of a blown head gasket. Help! Thanks!!

First, please change your title as "help' is reserved for genuine emergency situations.

Do you have a check engine light? Do you have a code reader? Have you checked fuses? Spark?

I'll be happy to change the help as soon as I figure out how to. My apologies. I've not checked fuses, more concerned with the low compression numbers at this point. Only CEL was for 1st coolant temp sensor. Yes I have spark and fuel.

Whoops... looked at that without my glasses and read 100, 80, 80, 85psi, not 100, 30... Okay, that's definitely a concern. Try putting a squirt of oil down there; if the compression numbers come up, you know it's piston-related; if they don't change, it's likely valve train.

I did, I used marvel mystery oil. I'm going to let it set for a day or two and hope for the best.

If you have never replaced the ect sensor on back of engine......would suspect and maybe even replace....
.....the probe gets cooked over time....
And is a pia to change.....of course....

when these go bad....engine will not start....just cranks....

Dont think your compression numbers are right....
think you did something wrong on the test....

What do you mean about the compression #'s? I screwed the tester into each spark plug hole, spun the engine to get the psi. Did I leave something out?

So you spun it over several times for each cylinder?

Cant even imagine the engine running before with those numbers.....

Correct, each cylinder was spun for a solid 3 seconds.

I don't think it would run with those numbers but it was running just fine when I parked it.

People smarter than me have stated the cutoff for toyota engines is somewhere around 80psi....
below that dont get complete combustion......
