Would the GX’s be a better option than the GTO’s? Also, when you say rear presence, do you mean it’ll be similar to the stock as is now or will it be worse?

The JBL's typically play nicely with stock wattage since they are more sensitive than most stock speakers and require less power to run. I've had good luck with the GTO series, but the GX looks like it will be better for a factory integration setup. I've never run them but they look worth testing out.

I have a 21 and have been thinking of upgrading my stereo. My question to anyone who knows stereo systems better than I is do you think a radio with a built in amp with 45W RMS 100W peak X 4 would power a set of 6x9 JBL's and 6.5 JBL's in the rear? I have the 6.5's already but would purchase the 6x9.
Sony XAV-AX7000 Digital multimedia receiver (does not play CDs) at Crutchfield This is the radio I am looking at and JBL 9631F Concert Series 6"x9" 3-way car speakers at Crutchfield these are the speakers. I'm not looking for window rattling sound just a clean clear and louder sound than what is currently playing.

It would be a noticeable improvement over the stock setup.

I think JBL and INFINITY are both Harmon Kardon factory produced. If/when my stock speakers blow I will swap them with the JBLs that are 2-3ohms.

A nice head unit such as the Sony you’re asking about would be a nice upgrade over the factory headunit

An amp will get you louder with no distortion. If you like louder music then I'd recco an amp. Also if you want the better sound, I would definitely recommend a nice component set of 6x9s, like infinity, JBL, kicker, there's plenty of good ones. I currently have infinity reference 6x9 components with reference 6.5 coaxials in the back. Fronts run at 110Wx2 and the rears are run at 602Wx2. Using 2 channels of a 60x4 amp in the back since I had it from my tundra. Front amp is a sound ordnance. Also the HU is an alpine ILX-W650

I went all in on my 2021 TRD Off Road. It started as just upgrading the door speakers and that lead to revamping the whole thing. While I spent more than I planned, I love the final product!
    • Subaru/kicker tweeters (dash)
    • Alpine S Series speakers (front and rear doors)
    • Rockford Fosgate 500W amp
    • Alpine 12" sub in an enclosure behind rear seats
As others have said, soundproofing is a solid idea while you're doing this. My system now RAWKS!

I have to agree with all of that. Even with Harmon Kardon now owning JBL and I believe Infinity. JBL has always had nice speakers. Though whoever designed the stereo in our trucks should be slapped the way Marshall slapped Barney!

I’ve had my truck since July and am ready to gut the stereo and this thread has been a good read. Are you still running the stock headunit or did you pull that as well? My problem with pulling the head unit is I HATE that aftermarket look. Also, the only way I’ll get my volume knob is by getting one of those huge ugly screens or buying some Boss junk from Crutchfield. If you did stay stock for the radio what L/O converter did you go with and what amp setup? Thanks!

I really think you should do the tweeters first. It made a HUMONGOUS difference and took all of 10 minutes to install… pop em out, pop em in. The stock tweeters are garbage. You’ll be shocked how good the stock speakers sound with better tweeters tho

    Hey GI Joe,
    I like your suggestion.
    What tweeters did you use?

I had Infiniti Kapps for 2 years. Here's what they looked like after that. I'd recommend a baffle of your choice for any aftermarket speaker.

These are pnp. You don't have to do anything special to install them.

I'm fully redoing my system in a few months, but got these as a temporary upgrade to get me by after seeing nothing but raving reviews for them on here. Are they the best thing ever? No, but they're pnp and install quickly and sound much better than stock.

Guess my excitement is now tempered a bit. Have the JBL system so the tweeters suggested won't work as plug-n-play. Did anyone upgrade their JBL tweeters?
