I think every service has its +/-, but I think the Air Force was great, a bad commanding officer made me not want to stay in. During my time in the Air Force, I had a room with 1 other guy and for a lot of the last 2 years we had 2 rooms with three guys and since I worked mid nights, never had to stand for inspections, including the rooms. Mid night chow was the best, what did you want, our cooks would try to cook anything you wanted and maybe a sandwich for later that night. Spend about a year in Mildenhall England, 90 days at a time and with maid service for our rooms and most weekend free to travel. Hop a C130 to Germany or Italy if one of our planes was going there.
One time we did a TDY to the Fort Knox area to move troops, we stayed at a Holiday Inn at the Airport, nice indoor swimming pool. I did have to sleep in a tent once for a war game exercise at a remote base for about a week.

there where times I work my ass off, I spent weekends going through a plane to get it ready or up at 4am to ride a launch truck. One weekend there was a plane that almost crashed, so a MSGT and I took our system apart and bench tested everything and checked all the wires,15 hour days. I got 1st deg burns from sitting on the wing tip to change a part, could go through a uniform in one hot and humid night during the summer (the inside of the plane would still be over 100 degs at 2-3am, only used A/C units on mission critical planes)

AND all that was 1977-1980, wonder what is like now?

Slept in my own bed most non-underway nights. Or doing M stuff .. a nice hotel room at gov rate and collecting points. Single rate BAH for the lower enlisted once they're qualified.

Sorry, 'best' is relative, but you can't beat CG life.

    ...

There's some sort of rude answer about deployed spouses but I'm not gonna sink that low. :p

This exchange during an Embassy inspection in Zimbabwe captures the Army and Marine Corps relationship perfectly.
F Co. XO: "Who works in those offices across from post one?"
Me: "DIA sir. A LtCol, an SPC, and a Major doing DoD secret squirrel stuff."
F Co. XO: "What does the P stand for in SPC?"
    F Co. CO: "Pussy"
The CO's deadpan answer and matter of fact manner and how quickly he moved to the next topic of discussion has never left my mind. It was one of the funniest exchanges I can recall. For the record, when I got out as a contractor working with the Army and Air Force was such a great experience. Marines fucking suck to work for as a civilian.

Amazing, given that the size of the Army was, at the smallest ratio in 1945, 16 times the size of the Marine Corps. That ratio was even larger in prior years. There were 89 US Army Divisions compared to 6 Marine Divisions.

So size does matter. So what you’re saying is being a really small branch limits your ability to have an effect on unified land operations?

I find that those service members that constantly insult the other services and their capabilities are insecure about their own branch of service and their own individual service. Every branch is different, has different strengths and weaknesses, and is formed of many incredible warriors and leaders, and many who are not so talented. And anything you have to say that applies to the entire branch of service is ridiculous. There is so much variation even with each service. Regular units to spec ops, unit to unit, specialty to specialty. Insulting an entire service is just…lazy and insecure.

Brother the point of this thread is to insult each other and our branches. In good fun of course.

I was responding to your statement, for example, that there were more soldiers than Marines in the Pacific. Of course there were. There were more soldiers, exponentially, period. It’s like saying there were more Californians than Rhode Islanders in WWII. Of course there were. That has nothing to do with quality.

It’s good to have quality and quantity that’s the beauty of having a branch the size of the Army.

    Your no fun :D

I would have to agree though. I’ve seen a lot of ate up stuff from every branch.

Huge difference between a fun roast and actual denigrating comments. I’m not talking about you. I stopped that latter shit after my first deployment, after we had to rely on other services’ members, and they had to rely on us. So did my buddies. Deployment gave us a lot of respect for anyone who kept us safe, or anyone we supported who was taking fire and bleeding and dying.

So, not the thread for me, but you all have fun roasting.
