Should I plasti dip my entire tailgate?

So I’ve had about 4 cans of plasti dip in the cab of my truck for a year now meaning to spray my wheels and finally black them out. Well as time has gone on I found the giant vinyl pieces to cover your tailgate. But I’ve installed plenty of vinyl and I know it can be a pain in the butt to work with. Plus plasti dip is way cheaper than a $100 piece of vinyl that a good gust of wind can Jack your whole day up. So should I just say screw it and plasti dip that too? And if so…..how?

I think people are trying to say that this may not be the best idea.

Plastidip being soft and textured would marr easily on the tailgate and collect dust.
Give it a go. If doesn't work or gets messed up just pull it off.

Vinyl or a wrap would be much more durable. Or you could buy a black tailgate.

OP, I had the lower portion of my tailgate plasti-dipped at one point because I wanted to see if I liked the look but didn’t want anything too permanent. I say go for it and if you don’t like it, peel it off.

 

I know you said that you don't want vinyl, but are you talking about something like the link below? The best way to apply this one would be to take the tailgate off the truck and put it in your garage to install flat on sawhorses or table. Wet application would be a must for something that large. Better yet, take it inside and put it on dining room or kitchen table. Climate controlled and I'm sure your wife won't mind.

I’m starting to realize how bad the plasti dip idea was lol and that vinyl probably is the best option. I’ll let you guys know when it’s finally done. I just gotta feed the addiction while I wait to have the money for suspension and wheels and a new off road bumper

 

I wasn’t saying anything bad about OP, just wondering why he wanted to wrap the tail gate. From there I could give advice about plastidip (I’ve used it for many things).

It just seemed odd to wrap only the tailgate.
