I guess it’s time. I receive “key fob battery low” indication on my dash. I guess it’s time to investigate

Carnac predicts that your investigation will determine that your key FOB battery needs replacing.

I say live life a little and see how long you can go before it dies. Leave it up to fate to decide where you’ll be stranded, perhaps it’ll be somewhere exciting. Maybe you’ll be helped by a beautiful stranger. Maybe the entire trajectory of your life will change.

Rains everyday in Pittsburgh so it’s not required.

    Agree with @Hook78

But toss a spare battery in the glove box in case you don't like where you are when it fails.

On 2nd thought, don't go anywhere you don't want to be.

Actually, he wouldn't be stranded. The key fob contains a spare key to let him in the door, and once in, all he has to do is hold the fob up to the start/stop button, and he will be able to start the vehicle. This is a feature built in to the key fob and starter button, just for this reason, that batteries do wear out with time. This is in the owners manual, and actually when you bought your truck/vehicle, there should have been a tag that was attached to your gear shift knob, that stated this fact. That was the case with my truck, but I can see where it might have gotten lost before the vehicle was delivered.

What I got from this, was that I had no idea that when the battery was getting low in the fob, that it would show any kind of warning on the dash! I have never seen that mentioned anywhere! So thanks for letting us know about that!

Hey I’m just a lowly 2nd gen owner, what do I know? But you’re ruining the beautiful life altering possibilities of these circumstances with your “facts” and “technology”.

Very interesting observation - When my FOB battery went low, I replaced the battery and kept it in the house as a spare and used my original spare as my daily. I found it interesting that it's battery failed 6 months later although it was never used as much as the original. So it seems like both FOB's were "active" for the last 4.5 years on a 2019 original panasonic battery.
So here's my question for verification - If you don't replace the battery on a FOB, will it hold it's memory for that specific vehicle? I went ahead and replaced the battery as my lizard brain thinks it won't hold the memory for the next 4+ years. The other logic says you disconnected the battery when replacing so the code must be burned into an EPROM.
I guess I'd like to keep the spare in the house without the battery installed. Any thoughts and has anyone did this. Thanks

People who ask questions that are easily found in the big book that's cluttering your glovebox are the same people who post their math homework on quora.

Sometimes I'll give an answer that's incorrect, because you really need a C minus.
