Not sure about performance, but I'd buy it just for the sound.

It’s like 600 for the Y. I’d rather pay double for the whole shabang

I loved the subtle sound difference when I had my Trd exhaust. However I found it used for $150, so hard not to love it. Now on my new truck I’m having a hard time justifying the new cost for the long bed version. Just not that big of a sound difference.

Will the TRD exhaust reduce your low end torque?

No, it's a myth that back pressure creates low end tq.

Exactly. That whole thing is just an old timer myth or at least confusion and mixing of terminology/concepts.

You can still private message them to buy stuff if you don't have 50 posts yet. The 50 post thing is for selling stuff on there. It sucks it won't even let you comment on the ads as a buyer, but one of the moderators said to just message them.

I checked the accessories under build and price, and I stand corrected. When I had my 2016 Sport I inquired into the TRD exhaust and skid plate at the parts dept and was told I needed a VIN for Pro to be able to get these. Thanks for the clarity!

You definitely don't lol. Ordered my skid without a vin during one of their holiday sales. Can do the same for the exhaust.

What would be the perk of a borla catback vs just swapping in a borla muffler on stock exhaust? Is there a difference in exhaust diameter/material in the borla catbacks vs OEM? I've considered going for a borla pro xs muffler since I'd intend to axle dump it anyways.

I had a magnaflow off road exhaust on my 2nd gen and I initially loved the sound and the growl but eventually got tired of the drone and added a resonator to it to quiet it down. It was bearable but still was looking for something a little more pleasing on longer drives.

I wanted the TRD exhaust for my 3rd gen because I figured that Toyota would never make something loud and obnoxious. I jumped on one when it went on the marketplace here for like half the price. Absolutely love it-- it's just enough that I hear "something" but still comfortable on long drives. In videos my friends got of me when we were on trails it sounds a lot deeper than you hear in the cabin which is pretty sweet. Also, my girlfriend did not notice the change so there's that.

Eventually I plan to cut it on the turn down if I need more clearance and not afraid to do so since I got it for much cheaper. I do agree with other posts that it's a little lacking but I feel like if you pair an intake with it that it'll get to it's full potential for me. Outside of the cabin I think it sounds awesome already haha.

I believe the OEM diameter for the majority of the piping is 2.25 inches which is plenty fine airflow for this motor, to my understanding, as long as it stays naturally aspirated. Your best area to change the flow is the type of muffler but even then there isn’t much performance alteration, if any. Now if you use piping specifically made to work with your muffler, there may be some slightly different mandrel bends or other minute things that may change sound and flow to an infinitesimal amount but that’s really it.

I'd only be looking for sound, but something tame like the TRD exhaust, hopefully without the price of the TRD. Thats what led me to the Borla Pro XS muffler, but I haven't found anyone local with it, and don't want to be the Guinea pig

Had the dealer install one on my truck before I picked it up. With a manual transmission it sounds great!

I got a TRD skid plate thrown in for free when I bought my 2020 Sport and had no issues. Now this was a different dealer than the 2016.

I put the MBRP turn down (from Extreme Terrain) on my 2021 DCSB Offroad MT. Everyone said it sounded like crap so I lopped off the muffler section and welded on a Borla barrel type/universal. Much more tame and better sounding. It is not a quiet, drone-free exhaust so definitely not for everyone but I like it. My ex would have hated it haha.

Oh wow! I never checked the price. I'm definitely not paying that for a Y pipe.
