I took a tread depth measurement on my Toyo Open Country A30s that came OEM with my truck. I have just a tad under 7700 miles on the truck and the tread depth is 9/32nds. According to the specs on the tire the tread depth new is 11.1/32nds. This means that they lost 2/32nds of tread in about 7700 miles. The wear is even, I'm just surprised it's wearing this quickly. I drive 99% on pavement and the rest is nothing more than dirt and gravel. At this rate it will reach 4/32nds by 25-26,000 miles. Is this normal for these tires? That kinda sucks.

OEM tires tend to have less tread depth than aftermarket, also they sometimes use a softer compound on them to give the owner a softer, quieter ride while still in warranty.

My toyos went 55k miles, think the first bit of thread wear happens fast as the break in. Just make sure to keep rotating them.

My original Toyos went 41,000 miles, 99% pavement driving. They were quiet, wore evenly and the factory balance job was smooth until the last day.

Tread depth is only one part of the equation, the Toyos on my Tacoma have an abysmal treadwear rating of 300; the Michelin Defenders I'm inclined to replace them with have a rating of 800; I'm thinking I'll probably drive the factory tires for a year or so and then chuck them in favor of the Michelins.

I was to the wear bars with super sketchy traction in the wet at 25k and thankful to get rid of them.

Yeah the tread isn’t very deep on these tires. They are really good tires though considering they’re oem

We have the Michelin Defenders on my wife's Prius and she's really pleased with them. The Toyos on the truck are ok, nothing to write home about but not bad for an OEM tire. I was just surprised at the wear rate. I do rotate them regularly.

i just removed my toyo A30's and installed better tires for the winter. i needed tires with the 3PMS.

my toyos have about 8K miles and are measuring 9/32nds of tread. i like the toyos and plan to re-install them in the spring. i suspect after next summer they will be near the wear bars and i will get rid of them. at that point they'll have somewhere around 25-30K miles on them. i do not run tires below 5/32.

Ok so we are right around the same point. I guess it's not unusual for these tires.

Seems like normal wear but you may get more. Dont be afraid to run them 2/32. This is why most OE tires don’t come with treadwear warranties.

I changed my A30's out at 50,000 miles only because I got a hell of a deal on 4 Toyo Open Country AT III's. I'm sure they would have gone 70,000 and I never had any balancing issues. Just be sure to rotate every 5,000 miles.

That's impressive. I'd be shocked if I got anywhere near that mileage. I do rotate them every 5k miles.

Currently at 60,000 miles. Rotated regularly. Could get another 5,000 out of them but don't want to push it with winter coming in.
Having Michelin Defenders put on this weekend.

At about the 25k mile mark I replaced mine, they had plenty of tread left but during Florida rainy summer season they were getting downright dangerous. Lots of spinning and poor wet traction. I dumped them with still 7-8/32 on them for a new set of Michelins which are doing perfect.

Just replaced mine at 26k. (4/32) rotation every 5k. Could of went longer, but not with upper Midwest winter coming.

Interesting that about an equal number of people are reporting 40-50k vs 25-27k, and everyone seems to rotate them regularly. Kind of a head scratcher. I think I'll be in the lower group.

Mileage & tread wear is only a part of the equation for good traction. The health of the tire compound is a big one.

Most tire compounds start declining after 2 years, and by 5 years aren't really offering much in the way of wet or dry pavement grip. Regardless of tread depth.

Picking a tire based on estimated mileage treadwear, factoring in your annual mileage, and shooting for a 4-5 year 'it's worn out' factor is a way to get good value.

This is primarily for pavement pounders and mild off road folks. Or sports car owners where good grip is desired all the time.

Look at at RustyGreen pic. No way I personally would run a tire that low on tread.

About to take mine off in a few weeks to put on a set of steelies with Cooper AT'S that I picked up for song to run for the winter. Probably not the greatest winter tires either but should be better than those stockers in the snow.
