    About to buy a Ruger LCR 357 mag. I have a Glock 17 9mm, a Colt 45 1911 70 series, & a Sig 229 40 cal. It only make sense I get the LCR. Pros & Cons, let's hear it.

Can't go wrong with a Ruger or a S&W. If I had to pick a revolver today, it would be an LCR .357.

I can get the LCR 357mag for $425 + tax. I haven't seen the S&W for anywhere close to that price. I've also heard that the Ruger has less felt recoil.

I have the lcr 38+p. Its an excellent gun! I haven't shot the 357 but I'm sure the recoil will make it not much fun to shoot a whole lot. My 357 sp101 is even pretty snappy and it weighs a fair amount more. Excellent ccw pieces, lcr's are. I prefer the lcr's over the smiths. Historically, rugers were considered stronger than smiths but smiths were considered nicer. I don't believe that's necessarily true anymore. Rugers never lost strength but got much better triggers over the years. Smiths triggers have really declined over the years. IMO, smiths are nice but overpriced. They knew it too. They just recently lowered their prices to be more competitive. Its safe to assume they'll cut more corners now too because smith hasn't turned a profit in a long time from what I hear. The competition is just too good now.

357mag from a snub is like tits on a boar....or worse.
You don't get much more velocity, you get a lot more muzzle flash, and the recoil is almost unbearable.
Plus certain hearing damage....and that's permanent.
38+P is as much energy as you can handle from a snub and you save money on the purchase.
I've shot the most powerful handguns in the world and 357 magnum from a 15oz revolver is the most violent I've ever experienced.
    Save your money.
SW 442/642 will end any fight that a 357magnum snub would end.

Had a 340pd...recoil was a bitch with mag loads. I had a lot more control with .38's...obviously.

again, just trying to dispel the outrageous firearm myths that people like to spout on the net. the .357 causes permanent hearing damage as opposed to other cartridges, the .45 takes off arms and stops men dead in their tracks, ak-47's don't break, ar's are unreliable, 12 gauge buckshot does not penetrate through barrier walls, etc etc

they are all loud and they ALL can cause damage regardless of caliber the .357 does not stand out

    .25 ACP 155.0 dB .
    .32 LONG 152.4 dB
    .32 ACP 153.5 dB
    .380 157.7 dB
    9mm 159.8 dB .
    .38 S&W 153.5 dB
    .38 Spl 156.3 dB
    .357 Magnum 164.3 dB
    .41 Magnum 163.2 dB
    .44 Spl 155.9 dB .
    .45 ACP 157.0 dB
    .45 COLT 154.7 dB

as for your velocity argument.... wrong again:

    http://www.snubnose.info/docs/38-snub_vs_357-snub.htm

and I have clearly demonstrated that the LCR in .357 is NOT a scandium j-frame and handles the full power .357 loads with ease. My follow up shots are fast ( less than .2 split times) and on target......

I have also tested these at night, in a car, and in a car at night. Guess what? I did not go blind and could still see for follow up shots.

    just dispelling MYTHS

Those were 125grp winchester jhp. In the other videos, 158gr .357 wadcutters hand rolled, 125gr buffalo bore and remingon golden sabre, 110 gr winchester jsp... all .357

I stand corrected based on the information in the snubnose test.
Those differences are enough to be valid.
I will say that when I'm at the range, it's easy to find the snubnose 357 shooter among all the other centerfire handgunners, and by a wide margin.
That said, any centerfire handgun fired in a car or closed room is going to cause permanent hearing damage.
    The less, the better.
I appreciate the facts you present.
    Good work.

i have a taurus 650 snub 357, yes flash is a bit much, recoil is bad if you have limp wrists. i also have a taurus 66 357 and it shoots the best to me compared to my SW VE40 cal auto. violent??? noooo sir.

357 mag is the min i would carry. very very goood caliber and it fires 38s for those who afraid of violence.

    Don't do it man.
    Buy an SP101.

I bought an LCR (in .38) for my wife.
    She hated the recoil.

I put about 70 rounds through it and I did not want to fire it again. I ended up selling it to a friend who wanted a backup gun.
My issue wasn't so much the recoil (after shooting those 70 rounds, I put 200 through my 1911), but the poor finish inside the trigger guard. The muzzle flip lifted the guard into my knuckle and the molding part line wore a callous.

The LCR is simply too light for a revolver.

I bought an SP101 and have put hundreds of rounds of .357 downrange and am very happy with my decision. Wife ended up with a 92FS.
