Has anyone just replaced the jbl sub and amp in their Tacoma? If so how’s the sound system is it compatible? I’ve read threads ab issues and other threads to replace the whole system but I just want to replace the sun and amp since I am more of a bass head and don’t care much ab the other speakers (highs and mids)

To replace the factory amp is a costly process, and if your not going to replace the rest of the speakers its wasted money.
You can add another amp and sub to get the bass you want though

Do the 3rd gens have the same JBL sub and amp that the 2nd gens had? If so, it's really not that hard to patch in a new sub and amp piggybacked off the existing factory amp. It's not going to win any audio competitions, but it sounds great, waaaaaay better than the stock JBL sub.

If you can post a pic of the 3rd gen factory amp, I can probably tell right off the bat by looking if it's the same as the 2nd gens, in which case I could steer you to the right thread in the 2nd gen forum:

If you want to upload a picture that preserves some of the detail/resolution all you need to do is click on “Upload a File” and then “Choose File” and then select the pic out of your photo library.

Yes people have replaced it but you need some sort of processor gizmo to make it work properly. The amp runs everything.
