We have a problem with squirrels nesting in the engine bays. They will build it over night it seems and chew anything in the way. Weve tried everything. Repels all seems to help. Smells like old piss though.

My sister’s two year old Hyundai was recently scrapped because of this. She found out only because the tire tech noticed the cvj boots were damaged. Car ran fine, no warning lights, or codes.

the insurance company actually wrote a check for more than she paid for it. Even gave her a little bit of credit for the new tires and battery she bought.

I only assumed that no one wanted to be held liable if later on the vehicle was in a crash because the ABS didn’t work or the airbag didn’t deploy when needed.

Honda sells wrapping tape with hot pepper infused in it to wrap around wiring harnesses.

They didn't do any damage but I saw evidence (muddy little foot prints) of rodents in my engine compartment. Had the engine bay degreased and cleaned and use a combination of these two things and haven't seen any signs of critters since.

And it leaves a nice pine scent in the wilderness.

Not a bad idea if it works. Rather cheap too.

I do something similar in my garage. Hoods are up on the tow rig since it only moves when work needs to be done.

I’m down two of them, so I may need to find some more barn cats.

My cat and I have an agreement....she can use my recliner that is out in the garage as long as she keeps watch on my truck. So far so good.

Amazon sells liquid repellent. Also allegedly lavender dryer sheets placed under hood repel them. Cheap mouse traps placed on front tires, baited with peanut butter can be lethal. Europe started this crap,. wanted vehicles to be 100% recyclable. The law of unintended consequences bites us....

Eliminate the threat. We had some problems years ago. Couple of issues mostly self-induced. Any sort of food waste, garbage, bird seed, etc. needs to be out of the garage. Remove everything that could be used as bedding from the garage. Clean thoroughly to get rid of all mouse sign. Poop, piss, and everything else must go.

Then set kill traps. Kill them all and keep killing them until you cannot kill anymore. Keep setting the live traps even after you think you have eliminated your problem. We have no more problem, but still kill a mouse or two every year. But compared to several every night, I'd say the above has helped us.

    God Bless,

Here’s the bucket trap in my shed. I know it won’t help inside the truck but in a garage or shed these work great. Just add about 2” of RV antifreeze. Has a magnet on the underside so when they get out to the end of it they are just heavy enough for it to release and drop them in then goes back up and resets itself.

We had this happen to my wife's Ford Fiesta a few years back. It was squirrels though, not mice. She went out to go somewhere one more and the car wouldn't turn over or start. Dead as a doornail and couldn't jump it. Had it towed to the dealer, they sent pictures of the peanuts the little suckers put in the nest. Same problem, main wiring harness. Good news is that insurance covered all but the comprehensive deductible, including the cost of a rental while hers was in the shop.

This happened to me as well. Knock sensor harness. The little bastards set up shop under my intake manifold.

Just got the Taco back after 5 weeks of waiting. Turned out the harness costs $3,600CAD (!) and labour was $1,000CAD. Now to buy a cat that would like to live in the engine bay…B03E0E56-A9DF-466C-8803-20182605E656.jpg

I got my truck back 2 weeks ago. It was nice to have a zippy SE Camry for awhile but I missed my truck. Only cost me $500 out of pocket. Toyota mechanics were alittle slow, but they have so many used cars for the dealerships to fix up. I was just a # to them. Bought some mint spray to use on the wires. Boss bought it for me, I sold him on the fact I’d spray all the company vehicles in the parking lot.

Pocket the $6000 and fix the wiring yourself. Just solder the wiring together and use high quality shrink wrap and be done with it! I would not trust the dealer to touch my car.. 9 times out of 10 the dealer will mess something up and not put everything back correctly.

This really is a simple fix. Dont need to replace the entire harness.

Both of these work, I can vouch for that. I use/used them both.

I've tried that with mice, and chipmunks here. They get wise to it, and won't walk the plank. Only thing that gets results is those good old fashion mouse traps, and even then i've had some mice outsmart them. Those jawz's plastic spring traps work real well.
